CZ P09 sight height
« on: May 13, 2020, 04:01:11 PM »
So, taping really quick into the wisdom of the forum.I ordered a front fo 5.75 tall sight from the Cz Europe shop. The site says that that is the standard sight height propper for my pistol. Ran it with the stock rear tritium sight and now decided to swap the rear with a Dawson Precision competition larger notch sight.
Found out on another Cz parts website that all factory Cz' s come with standard 5.5 mm sights. So besides being all confused right now, I guess the question is what height should my rear sight be in inches, in order to fit the 5.75 front one? Can t even trust the part dealers no more..oh, the world we live in :))

I may not be much help, but Dawson is great for help. Below link is for their sight height calc. Also try calling them if this does not help.

The suppressor height sights from the factory on my P07 and P09 are 9mm on the front sight and 10mm on the rear.

I haven't compared the two side by side but due to the P07's shorter sight radius they can't shoot the same.

I would think that the rear sight for a 5.75mm front sight would be 6.75mm (0.265748") roughly.

How tall is your stock rear sight and where do your shots land at your preferred shooting distance?

So the difference between the sights is
5.75-5.5 equals .25mm  which equals 0.00984252 inches

On a Sig Sauer P226, changing from a .230 to .220 front sight will change the POI 1 inch at 25 yards.

When comparing my P226 against my P09 the P09 has maybe 1/4-1/2 more sight radius.

Point being is that a .01 difference equals 1 inch at 25 yards
You are dealing with .0098

You also need to know how the manufacturer is measuring the sights.  CZ custom USA measures the sight in total height, Dawson measures just the blade height.

A dawson P09 rear sight .205 works with the .155 front sight.  Your 5.75mm front is .226 inches total height, minus the dovetail.07 you have a .156 front sight.

Ok, so the mistery deepens. Took an electronic caliper on tge front sight. It measures 0.1615 inches or 4.10 mm from the top of the sight to the slide. Nowhere near the 5.75 mm I paid for a while ago. How the heck did they come up with that number? Even with the sight out, I doubt it comes up to 5.75 mm. I tried measuring the back sight. Because the slide is sloped, I can t get a true reading. The sight itself, where the hammer is, is 0.192 inches or 4.91 mm. Dawson has nowhere near these measurements so I guess I ll just give up. It would sure be nice for them to post pics with the numeric values of their products. Like diagrams and stuff.
I ll stick with the factory rear and just change my prescription glasses:)) godbleep.

The dovetail on the P09 is .070 deep
So take .070 + your .1615 = .2315 which equals 5.8mm

The 6.5mm front sight from CZ custom on my P09 measures .185 from the top of the slide.

As I said before, you have to KNOW how they are measuring the sights, some places measure total height some measure blade height, two different measurements.

The smartest and easiest thing to do is, install the front sight that you plan/want to run.  Shoot the gun, how does it shoot.  You might not even be able to tell the difference between a 5.5 and a 5.75 sight.  If it doesnt shoot to the POA that you prefer, call up Dawson Precision and they will make you a custom rear sight to correct the issue.

No point in worrying about changing rear sights and this front sight was supposed be this measurement but its not til you install the front sight and confirm the POA/POI.
