I got mine at Harbor Freight. They have a few sizes like the one in the link. It all depends on the wind and the ground surface. It’s always windy by my house so that was a pain and the mesh picks up all kinds of thing when the mesh is on the ground. I now use a rake and clear large areas.

I got the mesh from here
https://www.teksupply.com/contractor/supplies/search?searchQuery=shade

Commonly used for shade in greenhouses and for animals.  I used leftover from another project.  If I'd buy it just for the shell catcher, I'd go with a looser weave (more sun let in) since it would be cheaper, let more dirt fall out, catch the wind less, etc.

There are many places that sell this stuff - look for green house equipment or shade stuff for animals.  Very popular in AZ.

Thanks !

My 'backstop' is covered with 2 mis-aligned layers of 1/2" black nylon 'bird mesh' and a stronger backup of 1-1/2" 'deer mesh', but cases keep going through it.

Well, just start shooting 50BMG and it will catch the cases just fine!   O0

At my club range, We have drills set up in about a dozen stations. Pretty much all involve movement  while shooting, so our approach to brass collection is to cover the range in peastone and try to keep it meticulously clean. Leaf blower is deployed before every session. Brass lands  where it may but is fairly easy to find on top of peastone. We ban 22lr because no one picks it up, and it becomes like chaff when you are seeking out the centerfire stuff.

That said, I've been thinking about making some simple pvc frames that would hold window screen.  Maybe 6 feet square. Place these strategically near likely shooting positions so the brass would hit the screen "fence" and fall to a known position.  The challenge is locating them such that the shooter doesn't run thru them when moving to next target.

At the home range, some shooting positions are in mowed grass. Brass disappears into turf like crazy. I've resorted to stealing my daughter's cheap "toy" quality metal detector. For a $20 item it does a surprisingly good job helping to find brass in the thatch

Except you still need to get down to the ground to pick it up...and because of global warming...the ground is farther away. ;D

Cauldwell makes a really nice catcher that can be attached to a tripod to adjust height or just set on bench for shooting while sitting, I like mine anyway.
