Mr. Murphy,
Sometimes when a magazine is loaded, the cartridges will not stack uniformly inside the tube and on round will be loose and rattle. Is it ammo that is rattling in the magazine or is the magazine loose in the frame? If the latter, I'd like to see a video as I haven't come across this issue with loaded magazines in a CZ? Does it rattle with the 10 round magazine?
Comments relating to CZ's and common issues:
CZ's from the factory come with a heavy coating of protectant. This shouldn't be confused with lubricant. It all needs to be removed prior to shooting the gun or you will have feeding issues. Some folks actually dip the entire gun in hoppe's (or equivalent) to dissolve all the grease in the nooks and crannies. This includes the magazines. Strip the magazines, clean, and degrease them inside and out. I like to wax them inside and out for smooth feeding (car wax is great).
From the factory the magazine releases are tight. Generally through use they smoothen out and get easier to operate. You could also remove the release and stone the catch surface to accelerate the break-in.
Final thought, is that 9mm CZ's tend to have a short chamber (designed to run NATO 9mm) and do not run all ammunition. If you reload then you should verify the max OAL for each bullet you intend on loading and adjust your process accordingly. If you don't reload then you should take your stripped barrel with you when you purchase ammunition. In the store, test it by dropping a round into the chamber and verify it will freely rotate and fall out under it's own weight (aka Plunk Test). If you have questions or are purchasing online, then post up to see if anyone has used what you intend on purchasing in the "Ammunition, Questions, and Handloading Techniques" section of forum. It's one of the best on the net for pistol reloading period, especially for CZ's.
Comments on CZ Customer Service:
It sounds like they are taking care of you. You have had issues with your pistol and they are fixing them under warranty. I don't see how that is a problem? I understand that the process is slow and not what you intended when purchasing this firearm, but stuff happens and that is why there is a warranty. Had they refused to correct the issue or been rude then maybe there is room to file a complaint. Not knowing what CZ is doing to rectify the problem makes it hard to pinpoint the root cause. Did they replace the pistol upon first return? Did you not notice the stiff magazine release initially and then upon return from warranty noticed it?
I hope this purchase doesn't spoil your taste to CZ's. I assure you that your experience is not the norm (even though your complaints do show up here on occasion). Most of the time they are rectified by the suggestions above and do not require return for warranty. I have Rami BD and it is a tack driver for such a short barrel (albeit chunky) pistol!
P.S. Welcome to the addiction uh I mean forum!
Cheers,
Toby
