New member joined for help with my RAMI
« on: March 31, 2020, 12:42:56 PM »
Hello RAMI club,

I have purchased a new RAMI BD and would appreciate and feedback /assistance.

Upon initial firing the gun jammed and would not fire more than one round.

I sent it in to the warranty center. Upon return the gun no longer jams however the mag release was extremely stiff, the magazines rattle and you cannot load 14 rounds in the 14 round mag. The 14 round mag will only accept 13 rounds.

I sent the gun back into the warranty center. The mag release button was corrected however the magazines still rattle and the 14 round magazine will still not accept 14 round.

This is my first CZ and I regret the purchase

Are these issues with the firearm and CZ customer service typical?

Any ideas on how I can get the issues corrected?

Sorry to hear about problems with your gun.
Rattle in the magazine is normal for RAMI and eventually will go away. See if loading less than maximum cures the problem. Of course carrying less than 14 rounds is not normal for a firearm that claims 14 round capacity. My RAMI rattled with 10 round mag. Use maglula or a similar device to jam the 14th round into the magazine and leave it loaded for a couple of days. With time it will eventually loosen up and make it somewhat easier to load to capacity.
Good luck

Thanks I will give it a try

In regards to the magazine rattle, the magazine by itself does not rattle however when the magazine is loaded inside the gun it then moves and rattles.

Do you think this issue will improve over time ?

Mr. Murphy,

Sometimes when a magazine is loaded, the cartridges will not stack uniformly inside the tube and on round will be loose and rattle.  Is it ammo that is rattling in the magazine or is the magazine loose in the frame?  If the latter, I'd like to see a video as I haven't come across this issue with loaded magazines in a CZ?  Does it rattle with the 10 round magazine?

Comments relating to CZ's and common issues:

CZ's from the factory come with a heavy coating of protectant.  This shouldn't be confused with lubricant.  It all needs to be removed prior to shooting the gun or you will have feeding issues.  Some folks actually dip the entire gun in hoppe's (or equivalent) to dissolve all the grease in the nooks and crannies.  This includes the magazines.  Strip the magazines, clean, and degrease them inside and out.  I like to wax them inside and out for smooth feeding (car wax is great).

From the factory the magazine releases are tight.  Generally through use they smoothen out and get easier to operate.  You could also remove the release and stone the catch surface to accelerate the break-in.

Final thought, is that 9mm CZ's tend to have a short chamber (designed to run NATO 9mm) and do not run all ammunition.  If you reload then you should verify the max OAL for each bullet you intend on loading and adjust your process accordingly.  If you don't reload then you should take your stripped barrel with you when you purchase ammunition.  In the store, test it by dropping a round into the chamber and verify it will freely rotate and fall out under it's own weight (aka Plunk Test).  If you have questions or are purchasing online, then post up to see if anyone has used what you intend on purchasing in the "Ammunition, Questions, and Handloading Techniques" section of forum.  It's one of the best on the net for pistol reloading period, especially for CZ's.

Comments on CZ Customer Service:

It sounds like they are taking care of you.  You have had issues with your pistol and they are fixing them under warranty.  I don't see how that is a problem?  I understand that the process is slow and not what you intended when purchasing this firearm, but stuff happens and that is why there is a warranty.  Had they refused to correct the issue or been rude then maybe there is room to file a complaint.  Not knowing what CZ is doing to rectify the problem makes it hard to pinpoint the root cause.  Did they replace the pistol upon first return?  Did you not notice the stiff magazine release initially and then upon return from warranty noticed it?

I hope this purchase doesn't spoil your taste to CZ's.  I assure you that your experience is not the norm (even though your complaints do show up here on occasion).  Most of the time they are rectified by the suggestions above and do not require return for warranty.  I have Rami BD and it is a tack driver for such a short barrel (albeit chunky) pistol!

P.S.  Welcome to the addiction uh I mean forum!

Cheers,
Toby

Yeah like tdogg stated it sounds like CZ is taking care of you so I see no issue there. I've always had great experiences with CZ service and never a complaint. Shoot the gun and give it time to break in and see where things fall at that point. Yes things happen and defects do make it out the door but for the record I've owned 9 CZ's (a few sold many still here) and never had a functional issue out of the box with one. Probably in excess of 100,000 rounds fired collectively through all of them with less than 10 feed failures all of which were caused by a defective round of ammo not the gun.
And yes sometimes mags rattle especially when at capacity and in the gun. I have Sigs and Berettas that do this. As to being loose in the gun some play is normal as the mag can't be "snug" fit and still be easy to insert and remove. If the mag to frame fit is excessive then posting some pics or a vid is in order.

+1 on Really cleaning/ degreasing prior to use.  I’ve got 4 CZ pistols ( including a Rami) and they were ALL funky from the factory.  Once really cleaned they run like a top.   Mine have became my all time favorites and my Rami is my edc.

My RAMI BD had feeding issues with some hollow points catching on the bottom edge of the feed ramp.  This happened only with the 14 rd magazines.  The 10 rd's were 100%.

I corrected the issue with significantly stronger magazine springs.  I wonder if CZ swapped your springs in a similar fashion.  If so, I wonder if they adjusted the magazine release to ensure improved retention with the higher strength magazine spring.  This is blatant speculation on my part.

All 3 of my 14 rd magazines with stronger springs have rounds rattle when full, but function 100%.  The hollow points that I now use are 124 gr +P Gold Dots due to the rounded leading edge of the HP cavity.
