locktight on threaded barrels
« on: June 08, 2020, 12:53:17 PM »
i have a PM threaded barrel and comp arriving tomorrow  [P07] and the instructional vid says to use red locktight. a generous amount at that. so how am i supposed to clean the barrel and comp after shooting? it obviously wont come out of the slide if i do this. should i just use blue?

That’s odd as I have never used any lock tight.  If you use the proper piston/barrel match (pistol Vs rifle) should be good. If you decide to use lock tight then blue, never red. It won’t come off.

if anything i would try this. start with a small amount near the end or middle and not near the start of the threads. also suppose to be good for grip screws.    https://www.vibra-tite.com/threadlockers/removable-reusable-threadlockers/vibra-tite-vc-3-threadmate/?gclid=Cj0KCQjww_f2BRC-ARIsAP3zarHI2nx_fitfl0F8voyX-D9fzA3r7zuDmC9K2BiWlNvUM1g8dJgbYSsaAvQQEALw_wcB

with a comp still attached, you can lock the slide open and pull Otis cables (with patches or brushes) through the barrel. Similar for the quick cleaners (Otis Ripcord, Barrel Badger, Bore Snake, etc).

Would a little of the white plumbers tape do the same thing? No glue to worry about and the tape is cheap.
I've found that growing up in the sixties was a lot more fun than being in my sixties.

you may want to try w/o any locktite first.  but put some rounds through it and see if its starts to unwind.  iirc, if its opposite hand thread, you should be ok.  but again, i would try w/o locktite firsts.

also, there are various thread lockers with various holding power.  Even locktite has various thread lockers.   Heat will usually loosen them (hint hint).

If you can find green Lok-Tite it will hold fine and easily remove. It's meant for anti vibration use.
