CZ457 AT One Boyd stock Acton loose
« on: May 31, 2020, 08:39:47 PM »
Hey Guys,
I'm new to this forum and just getting into shooting 22lr. Have owned several rifles Marlins, Savages, Rugers, Etc but never a CZ.
I have heard from target shooters that this is the king of rifles so I went and bought a 457 after allot of reading and looking through reviews of how they shoot.

I ended up with a CZ457 AT One with a 24" barrel. After I got the rifle home I noticed the action is a little loose in the stock. Maybe this is considered normal (I'm Not sure) but for what I paid for this rifle I was really disappointed in the quality from this aspect.  Its going to be awhile before I get the scope and rails etc for the rifle so I am planning on bedding it.

Have any of you went this far with your rifles and what did you use?
Has any one else bought one of these rifles and seen the same thing?

Thanks for the advice/help..  Looking forward to see what this rifle is capable of.......

I don't have a 457 but I have added a pair of Boyd's stocks to two different model 527's the At-One in 204 Ruger and a 17 Remington in the red stock. In the past CZ has done few different things regarding bedding on 527's. One was they use to put a small dab of epoxy around the recoil lug. A second thing was no epoxy around the lug. This sounds a bit like your 457 AT-One. And currently (although I haven't seen it personally) is they added a plastic spacer/bedding clip. I'm trying to remember what was done with the 452's and 455's and I don't recall any bedding material with them, I could be wrong though. If I know the action is going to stay with that stock then I'll possibly glass bed the forward part of the receiver and the small 1/2 moon tang. Also possibly the bottom metal/trigger guard. I will shoot the rifle first though and see if it needs it. The inletting on both Boyd stocks was a slight bit generous and as I'm not sure that these actions are staying with those stocks they were bedded using hot melt glue. This locks the action in place as a temporary solution and is way easier to remove than epoxy if things change. Make sure the action screws are tight and see if you still have the looseness if you do still have looseness you can permanently glass bed it or you can use the hot melt glue as bedding. I agree it shouldn't be lose but hopefully it can be fixed by tightening the screws. Good Luck.

Assuming the mounting hardware is the correct length...bedding compound works quite well.
I've used the stuff from Brownells and it does a great job if you do the right prep.
Enjoy the new CZ  :).
