VZ50 Nut Issues
« on: May 15, 2020, 08:35:03 PM »
My VZ50 has functioned perfectly ever since I bought it. That is after replacing the mag springs and switching to Euro ammo. One thing that has been driving me crazy is this nut. I can't seem to get it off and neither could the previous owner from the scratches left in it. I was wondering if anybody could help me out? It won't loosen but it won't tighten either so I'm at a bit of a loss. This has been preventing me from stripping the gun and cleaning what's under it. At this point I don't even know if I have to be worried about cleaning what's behind the side plate, which as far as I know is just the sear.

Here is a picture of the nut in question. https://imgur.com/a/2LHzWHI

Have you tried putting some heat to it?

I have not, would using a lighter work or would I need a torch?

A lighter won't do it, a mini torch would be better.  Have one of those torch lighters like people use for cigars?  The idea is just to get that spot hot and see if it lets go.  Don't do that yet.

I assume you've already tried penetrating oil?  First priority is not to damage what you've got.

I'd think about possible reasons it's stuck in the first place, like reverse thread, rust, super glue, fastener is peened on, locking pin through the nut (never seen that, but the point is to look carefully without preconceptions) . . . take a really good look at it and think about it before you make your assault.  It's often the case that in hindsight there were signs overlooked.  Judging by the scratches, is the nut spinning around but not coming loose?  There must be a way to access the head of the bolt, or whatever that is.  This was assembled, you need to understand how.

it looks like the threads were pretty crapped up and the nut was cross threaded up (coming off)
I would use a dremil grind the threads off that were above the nut and while hot saturate the nut and bolt with penetrating oil.  the picture looked like you had a gap between the bottom of the nut and frame, if so I would try tightening it first work it back down to the frame and then again remove as much of the bad thread as possible.
When you can get the nut to move work it up and down little bit by little bit like using a tap/ die,  Basically that is what you will be doing.
