MPR bullet from RMR?
« on: June 17, 2020, 01:16:03 AM »
Been using the 124 gr. Match Winner in my PCR, but am almost out, and was looking for a more general purpose bullet, one that can do double duty for either range or SD, and let's all just agree to set the whole "NO handloads for SD!" debate aside for the now, thanks.  My preference is a 124 gr. bullet, but I see this is also available in a 115.  Too bad they don't make it in .45!  All of which finally brings me to my questions, has anyone tried these in a CZ, how did they work out, and what sort of loads were you using?  Any issues with OAL vs. case capacity?  115 vs. 124?  Thanks.

Dave

• Bullet suggestions...
- For 70% target and 30% SD any of the target grade JHP would suffice... RMR, Precision Delta, Zero, Hornady HAP

- For 30% target and 70% SD I'd start with the Hybrid Hollow Point from Berry. (I would not use Berry's standard Target HP for anything.)

Any of the above will be an inexpensive choice when compared to Gold Dots or XTPs. You choose your favorite bullet weight.

• Then, I'd probably drive it with Alliant BE-86. 124gr up at least 1100 fps; 147gr to 1000fps.

The  124 MPR had to be loaded too short for my liking in my Target 2 gun.  Get a few and see how they work in yours.  I know others have been able to use them w/o any issues.

They work great in other guns I have - but I've standardized on the  Precision Delta  124 JHP

Thanks, guys.  Wobbly, you're gonna make me buy some BE-86, just when I was in the process of trying to reduce the number of powders I have on hand  ;).

Dan, that's what I was looking for, and was my primary concern.  And since I only have the one 9mm right now, it either needs to work in what I have, or it's a waste of time and components.  So how short was too short?  And Wobbly, maybe you could chime in here, too.  What do you consider the minimum allowable case capacity, or are there too many variables to make such an assessment?

Just went and looked at that PD bullet, would you happen to know how long it is?  Except for the hollow point, it looks almost identical to the RMR TC bullet I've been using.  Thanks again, guys.

Dave -
Well what have you got on hand ? Unique, HS-6, N330, N340, No7 and several others will do the job.
