I had No idea about the general 59 series until several weeks ago. My other handguns are all of foreign manufacture, except for a .22.

Whichever person at Luckygunner who created this did one heck of a job. Nice color-coding, in my opinion.

* This has a Much, Much larger number, and No graphics, and understandably no handy, logical categories (from my dense perspective) might be available for the Huge number of variations.

Do any of these charts help anybody Out There?

** At least the First chart I pasted can help explain some features on this large list in the second "pasting".

Somewhere I have the original product listing and parts listing books for all the S&W semi autos. Got it from them 30 years ago when I was "into" those guns.

Currently have a very nice Model 39 (no dash to those who care) and a cherry 539.Thought I was going to collect Smith autos until I realized magazines, real S&W and replacement parts are spendy or only occasionally found new or used on the various fleabays. I like to shoot and use my pistolas so lack of obtainable replacement parts kinda Kills that. And detail stripping these make a decock CZ seem like a Glock.

For anyone that likes variations and interesting semi's you could do much worse than a nice S&W. The 745 still calls out my name.

My 1006 is one of the few handguns I truly miss.  Carried it for 12 years.   :-[

I still have a early 60's model 39 and a 70's model 59 both are fine pistols. I think S&W produced the model 59 for a US Navy  test program. The 59 was a very popular pistol in the US for many years I remember waiting for months to get mine.
