Estate auction pickup
« on: July 16, 2020, 05:37:57 PM »
I was having a very bad day at work and took a long walk at lunch. Came across a small auction house having an estate sale and auction. They had 3 guns that no one showed interest in. Most of the buyers were there for the expensive art, antiques and carpets. I made an opening bid of $800 on a pistol the auctioneer said was from an unknown brand. Got it for the opener,

9mm Valor Commander Duty Coat.

The guy next to me said I was crazy buying the "Valor brand piece of junk" and should have bought the Colt 1911. I told him thanks, but I think the Dan Wesson, Valor model is a better pistol.

Thank heaven for morons like that guy next to you. Otherwise he would have bought it. Did you know what it was before you bid? Heck of a score. Congrats!

I've heard "Valors" are pretty nice pistols.  ;)

Seriously though, great find and I hoped that turned a crummy day around!

It was listed in the catalog as unknown maker, Valor branded with 2 pictures, no box just a soft case. I picked up the catalog when I walked in. The Colt 1911 was an older series 70 one in nice shape, sold for $1100. The last gun was a S&W model 15, listed as a 38 Special Smith and Wesson, it was in nice condition too, sold for $500.
