Top Mount Optics Rail
« on: August 11, 2020, 04:24:41 PM »
Yesterday while cruising this forum, I got 2 or 3 layers deep into some of the Stickies. In one of several dozen links I followed, a young Canadian reviewer talked about an after-market VZ over-the-bolt cover rail for mounting optics. It seemed to clamp onto the milled receiver, 2 places each side, and didn't require any machining of the receiver. And because it was over the hood, was in a fairly natural physical position for RD mounting.

I tried to find it again today, but I couldn't. However, I don't actually think he said who made it or where to get one.

Anyone got a clue what I'm talking about or where to find one ?

Edit... Found it ! :

Need to find the video again to be sure. Thought it had 4 attach points, but the one you link to is the closest looking by far. And that's exactly how it mounted.

Thank you.

You're probably referencing the magwedge rail: https://www.magwedge.com/product/cz-858-tactical-rail/

I just picked up one of the Magwedge rails. I've only been to the range once since installing it but it ran without issue. The only thing I don't care for about it is the rear capture pin. It feels like it's in there securely but I'm looking for a more low profile option to replace the pin with.

There is another Zahal receiver mount, https://zahal.org/product/vz-58-receiver-cover-side-picatinny-rail-scope-mount/, which fits over the existing dust cover, offers tool free installation and an optional side rail.

If you buy directly from the manufacturer, https://www.rrarms.cz/customers-outside-of-czech-republic/dust-cover-pro/, or another European reseller, https://polenartactical.com/shop/home/912-vz58-railed-dust-cover-pro.html#/258-type-no_side_rail, you could save $100 or so.
