Burris rings on CZ 527
« on: May 21, 2021, 10:33:42 PM »
I'm just wondering if anyone else might be having quality issues lately with Burris rings.

I've been using a Vortex Viper 4.5X20 (30mm tube) in Warne rings on my 527 in .204 Ruger. But my aging eyes needed more magnification, so I unboxed a Weaver T-Series XR 36X (1" tube) that I had on my shelf and tried mounting it using a set of Amazon-bought Burris 1" medium CZ rings. The ring fit was, well, to say the least, poor. I have mounted many, many scopes in my day and I could tell right off that something wasn't right. After quite a bit of fiddling around, I did finally get the scope and rings installed with all the correct torque. Just had to use a bigger hammer than usual...LOL, just kidding! Anyway, when I put the laser bore sighter in I quickly realized that I did not have enough right windage to zero the scope! This is a scope that had served me well for a number of years on a .22LR benchrest rifle, with absolutely no issues. I pulled the scope off and shimmed it to the right with a bit of the "friction paper" that came with the rings, but that still didn't give me enough right windage.

This would have been a perfect chance for the Burris Zee rings if they only made them to fit the CZ 16mm dovetail!

From what it looks like, I got a bum set of Burris rings. This is very disappointing as I have always had good luck with Burris products in the past.

I've heard of other people having trouble with newer Burris CZ rings. I have 4 or 5 sets of older Burris CZ rings but no problems with them. The Burris medium rings are the same height as the factory CZ rings. Warne tall rings (not medium), Talley and Leupold are just a bit shorter (about 1/16" or so) if you want to try a different manufacturer. Is your rear scope ring with the recoil lug sitting all the way down in the rifles lug cut out or is it hanging up on the lug mortise and canting twords the right? I have had that problem before.

I have a set of Burris rings on one of my 527s, but they are older rings.
The rings I have had the most trouble with are the CZ rings, the screws seem too soft and strip out easily...or so has ben my experience with them.
It's not saving any water if you have to flush it over and over....

Yup, I looked at that real close. The lug was fully seated in the pocket and the rear ring base was flat to the top of the dovetail.
