Feeding problems with tactical sport .40.
« on: January 16, 2017, 02:00:56 AM »
I was hoping someone might have some idea why my TS .40 is having feeding problems when shooting quicker. I had been shooting it in practice without any real problems but when I shot it in a club ipsc match it jammed several times. I have been told it could be the buffer , rounds to short  , rounds to long but the guy I bought it from said he had problems even with factory ammo. Its a tactical sport orange .40 and it is jamming on the feed ramp with bullet head in barrel.Any suggestions would be appreciated.

For me I needed to load at 1.125 OAL and replace a weak extractor spring to solve similar issue

Just some things to eliminate:
We're your practice sessions shooting the same ammo as used in the match?
Is the extractor channel  CLEAN?
In practice,  did you use all the mags used on the match?

Sounds like a magazine issue, need a stronger spring to push the rounds up faster.  Suggest you look at CZCustom or Grams springs and follower sets.  I've got them on 6 extended mags for my TSO and have never had an issue with feeding.

Double check the plunk and spin test on whatever ammo you are using.  CZ's chambers are short and not all factory ammo will be a good fit.  I run Xtreme 180gr RNFP to 1.125".  They don't spin at 1.132".  If you plan to stick with factory, suggest you ream the chamber to accept longer bullets.

This is what it looks like when it jams ..... I have to hit back off slide to get it in..... not every time but maybe one or two every other magazine.

  • Is it broken? Then why are you fixing it?

Throat the barrel and polish it up. Should help your feeding and reliability.

Wife: Is it broken?
Me: No.
Wife: Then why does it need to be fixed?
Me: I knew you wouldn't understand.
Me: You're way smarter than I am babe.
Wife: Ok, so if it's not broken and not fixed, what exactly is it?
Me: It's taking time Hun. Just taking some time.

Load to 1.125 and remove the buffer.

Agreed, load shorter and remove the buffer (I've never used it on mine and have had zero issues).

Many good suggestions here.  Things that can help are throating the barrel, removing the buffer, different oal, different profile of bullet (round nose will help), and stronger recoil spring.

After trying a few different OAL and removing buffer was still getting the same FTF..... my friend who shoots an STI suggested I try some off his rounds which had a flat point as opposed to the round nose flat points I was using . After shooting near 200 of them I have not had a single problem.... So I'm hoping that's the problem solved... Thanks again for all the suggestions.

I hate to bring this back from the dead, but I am having the exact same issue with my .40 TSO.
Shot a match today and had 6 malfunctions. Bullets jammed exactly like the photo.
Stats:
New grams springs/followers
Flat nose 180gr Blue Bullets loaded to 1.126 OAL
No shock buffer and 16lb recoil spring.
Just bought the gun in June and have about 1,500 rounds through it.

Phil, did you ever resolve this issue?
