CZ P-10 CGW Aluminum Dead Trigger
« on: November 29, 2020, 01:22:52 PM »
Hey guys, well good news bad news post. I recently bought and installed a CGW trigger striker kit/upgrade and all went well. I checked the trigger for function with dry firing "multiple" times, used a trigger guage (Lyman) and had reapeatedly measured a little over 3LBs consistantly, all seemed fine. Went to the range today for live fire and everything seemed fine, put at least 200rds through it with 0 issues of any kind ! Went for another mag, inserted racked the slide and wham,,dead trigger,,, :'( :'( I can't get the slide off so I can check inside either, soooooo now what ? Just hoping someone else mite have a clue,I'm sure I did something wrong but it all went back together fine,I took my time, gun was clean, and relubed and ready for the range & now this,,kinda bummed. This is the CGW aluminum trigger with the set/adjustable feature,I never touched it cuz trigger seemed fine as is. New CGW striker went in with 0 issues also, well maybe the spring flew across the room "once" LOL but like I say,,all seemed fine. I know I can call CGW on Monday and will if I don't get this figured out today. Thanks for any thoughts or info !

Did you use their striker spring? I had the trigger lock back or fail to reset like that using their striker and spring. If so what is happening is the striker is no longer under spring tension as the spring has caused the two retaining cup halves to open up and allow the striker to get through them. It will take some finessing but the gun will come apart. You will quickly know if the striker comes out with the spring loose and the two cups stay inside the housing.  The fix according to CGW is to flatten the very ends of the spring so they snug up flat against the cups. Get a file and just file them so the rounded part of the wire is not as rounded. I did it and it worked. You can also just go back to the factory spring.

Hmmmm,OK thanks for the info. I'll tinker with it I guess & see what happens. On yours was the slide locked up like mine ? It goes forward just a very small amount but I don't want to force it,,maybe I should,LOL I'll let ya know what happens,,still kinda PO'ed,,this is supposed to be a "fix" not a problem,,I love CGW and have 3 hammer guns with 0 issues,,so we will see. Thanks

Mine messed up a bit different but ended up in the same place. With mine it did it when firing, not when just racking it with a new mag. But when you think about it there isn't a real difference in slide movement between the two. Your spring came off on the last shot and instead of locking up immediately it happened after you released the slide.
My situation while not exactly the same gave me the exact same result as yours. Slide went to battery same as when you racked it. Dead trigger that did not reset and slide locked up until I forced it a bit. I think the hangup of the slide is definitely related to the position of the striker now not spring loaded. When you break the gun down you dry fire it and the striker goes forward after the safety lets it move forward. With no spring it will not go forward to the fired position. Try working it a bit but if you have one chambered be sure to do it outside and pointed away. Also see if you can move the slide enough back to get the backplate off and take the striker out.

Also consider CGW had the solution to me in hours so my bet is they have some "familiarity" with this issue if you catch my drift.

Well good news is I got it,,I tapped the slide forward and it went forward and came off,,pheeeeew ! Went right for the Striker, pushed it forward to remove  the pressure and removed the back plate. Striker was kinda loose/free floating but when I grabbed it the darn thing went flying,,LOL it was pointed in a safe direction ! I pulled the rest of the body out etc but saw no spring retainers, I tapped the slide on the table and they fell out,so I have all the parts together ! Now that I feel better I guess I have a Mini-Rant about the whole setup ! Ya would think that as awesome as CGW is that maybe a little more testing should of been done,,maybe they should of included new/updated striker spring retainer cups ! I understand the part of This Should Be Installed By A Qualified Gunsmith,,but would a qualified smith detect that the new striker spring needs to be filed down some for it to work 100%? SO I guess it boils down to the original factory spring goes back in and see how it holds up,my confidence in the gun just went down considerably so its just a range toy now,,not even sure I would take it to a match of any kind now. I typically shoot alot in the Winter months so I will get it back together tonight and go from there. Time will tell I guess & I will report back if anything else pops up,,,or out,,LOL  Thank you for the help !

It isn't the spring retaining cups or anything to do with the original factory anything but rather what the CGW spring is doing to the cups that causes the issue. It makes them open up just enough to get over shoulder on the striker. I had an HBI trigger, factory striker and HBI 15% less striker spring in mine that worked flawlessly through 1000s of rounds before I switched to the CGW striker and spring. CGW was out of stock on their trigger, striker and spring for the longest of time so I luckily went the HBI route but still wanted to try their polished striker and spring when they got them back in stock. When my issue came up they told me about the ends of the spring causing the cups to open so I put the HBI spring back in with the CGW striker and sure enough that fixed it. Since then for grins I filed the CGW spring like they suggested and it works fine. To your point, why they don't sell the springs so they work in the first place is beyond me and if I were you I would send an email. Might help the next guy that finds himself in the same boat

Thanks again for the update/info ! I put the Factory spring back in and I only sent the spring retaining cups flying across the room 1 time,,,,LOL ! Anyways its back together and the trigger pull only went up about 1/2 pound or so but still feels good & the reset is still very nice. I won't be confident again till I get 1K plus through it so time will tell & like I say I'll keep everyone updated. I just mite send CGW a email or even call them and see what they say ! Again, thanks !

I hear you on the fragile existence of those retaining cups. I have backups. The glock 19 ones work just fine and are easier to get so I would order some because you don't want to spend two hours on the floor looking for a $1 piece like I did.

@m1a_scoutguy, I got your PM but I think because I am a newbie I can not send messages yet. That is not a very "woke" thing to do to us peons LOL. To answer your question the glock store has them. You can try the CZ store to get originals but their website was a mess when I tried and the phone number was very busy. There are a number of threads on here where people have used not only the glock retention cups but glock striker springs. I have my originals back in the gun but I shot with the glocks in over a 1000 rounds with no issue.

And what CGW means when they say to file the spring is look at the very ends of the spring where the wire ends. The problem I think is the combination of the end of the wire making up the spring sticking out from the first coil and the general "roundness" of the wire. That combo causes the cups not to close together 100% and they open up when firing allowing the striker to get loose.  The idea is to make that end of the spring sit flat against the cup shoulders so you simply put a flat file on the table and stand the spring vertical and flatten somewhat that end. I used a little fine grit paper after filing just to smooth it some. I did both ends so I don't have to worry which is which if I take the striker apart. I only got a couple hundred rounds on the "fixed" spring but I got failures long before then pre-fix. Bottom line while it works I don't trust it and I am shooting with the HBI spring which I know works and gives me the same trigger pull. Thanks a ton,you have been very helpful !! I can't remember how long or how many "posts" before you can send PMs,,yea does seem kinda silly,Oh well. Anyway I will look for extra cups and check out the springs @ Dawson,I love those guys, there normally fast/free shipping and have some of the best CZ sights around. Have you checked your trigger pull with a gauge ? Mine was around 3.5 with the CGW striker spring and now its back up over 4LBs,still very nice & I almost thought the 3.5 was a tad lite so not really concerned about it going back up. Well I normally shoot every Sunday morning with a couple buddies & I usually put at least 200 rds down range so we will see how she holds up ! I'll report back either way,,Thanks again !!

Good news bad news conclusion !  ;) Went to the range again this AM and ran a solid 200 rds through the P-10 with 0 issues, seems to be OK now once I switched back to the stock striker spring. So many reason's to like this gun ,grip, accuracy, function etc,,"but" even with the CGW trigger it still bites my finger, I don't care for the slide release either & don't feel like spending $90++ bucks for the one from CZUSA. After running it through the above paces I switched over to my tried & true 07,,HUGE difference as you would expect, I mean there two totally different guns but the 07 "for me" just feels better, shoots as good if not better and just has more appeal for me, maybe cuz I have been shooting it since 2014 off & on but pretty much exclusively for the last 3 or 4 years ! Anyways as stated the good news is it seems to be running good & the bad news is without being to hasty it will probably sit in the safe awhile and I'll decide what I'm gonna do with it in awhile !  :-\
