Proper grip on Shadow 1
« on: November 30, 2020, 10:25:43 PM »

Guys, some videos I've seen have people recommending you use the slide stop and safety as thumb resting points when you grip the Shadow 1.

Just wanted to ask whether this is the "right" thing to do, or at least whether there are downsides to this?

I am seriously considering it since my thumbs sort of naturally rest on those controls when gripping and I'd like to train with that grip if its considered to be practical to use.

TIA!

I use CZ’s cocked and locked, so I always keep my right thumb on the safety to make sure it’s off when firing.  My left thumb is forward of the slide stop.

If you are applying force to the slide stop through your grip, the pistol might not lock the slide back on an empty magazine. To be clear, i am not suggesting that you do not do it, just stating a possible side effect.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

So, putting together Big Dave and Tok36's comments - OK for the rear thumb to be on the safety but keep off the slide stop. Got it.

That's exactly as I do it: push down on the safety to ensure it's off and the left thumb touches ahead of the slide stop on a bit of skateboard-tape.
I experimented with laying the thumb flat against the frame 'under' the slide stop, but found it accidentally engaged under recoil sometimes.

Ditto what others said on riding the slide stop with your thumb, you likely will impeded the slide from locking back on an empty magazine.

With my hand size and grip I prefer using the lower profile slide stops on my P01's and SP01's (sku# 0650008002).  the low profile slide stops have a shorter overall length, just something to consider if when you ride the safety with an aggressive and high grip and your right thumb is resting on or near the slide stop.  Other people adopt a grip where the tip of their thumb/distal phalanx points upwards to towards the top of the slide when riding the safety which also allows you to avoid riding the slide stop (as opposed to bending the tip of the thumb/distal phalanx down when riding the safety, the method I prefer).  Hope this helps!

Hi, No Vale!

Just wanted to ask how big your hands are. Mine are so girlie I swapped out the stock grips for the CZ aluminum ones.
