CZ 82 doesn't always stay cocked after firing
« on: June 09, 2020, 02:51:17 PM »
Looking for ideas on a problem I just had at the range.  Sometimes after firing a round, the hammer did not stay in the cocked position.  Instead, it fell back in the down position.  When that happened, it did not fire the next round.  A second trigger pull would fire the next round as if in double action mode.  The problem was intermittent. I was using three original magazines and didn't notice if the problem occurred with only one, it probably happened with all three but not sure.

Thoughts?

The little that I can contribute would be to isolate the issue: 1) Try shooting as many rounds as you can with each magazine to see if it is related to a specific one; 2) then try multiple brands of ammo to see if it is an ammo issue; 3) try having someone else shoot it to see if the issue could be related to grip.  4)  Is it time to change the recoil spring?  Whatever you procedures you try, do them systematically.

I had some jams in one pistol but only when using CCI Blazer Brass with 20 round magazines.  Nothing wrong with Blazer Brass but with the extended magazine and with this ammo, rounds could get jammed when loading and then fail to feed.

Keep us informed, it will provide useful information.  Good luck.

Good advice, thanks.  Interesting you mention grip, I hadn't thought of that.  After my last range trip, I decided I needed to change up my grip so have been working on that.

Any updates for us? I have the same problem with my 82. I researched possible problems and I found it could be the sear, sear spring, or both. So I ordered both from CZ. This was quite a few years ago and I never did the job. There is a nice tutorial on how to replace it but it is a little complicated and you can make a special tool that helps.  Long story short, I chickened out but I am considering giving it a shot soon. Hope that helps

Lagavulin62, I have not had a chance to get back to the range so no update.  Thanks for the sear, sear spring info.  When I get out next, I am going to fire a series of rounds from each of my three magazines to see if the problem can be traced to one magazine.  I really want to document the problem as best I can so if I need a gunsmith, I can give them more than "its broke."  Your info might help narrow down the problem.  I replaced all the springs so may I got a dud???  I'll do a follow up after my next shoot.

Dirty trigger group may be your problem. I had the same issue with my second CZ82. After taking apart my trigger group and clean every part, my problem was fixed.

I have had that issue in a couple of guns i have broken down I'm 99% sure its the sear spring. I have spent many an hour frustrated with getting the sear spring in correctly.

could just be the mags. I had similar issues on my CZ 83 .32acp  when using apparently modified mags.
