Possible Tanfoglio Silver Team Purchase
« on: January 16, 2021, 06:23:43 PM »

I have a chance to purchase this Tanfoglio Silver team SAO in 9x21. It was made in the mid nineties and does not appear to have been fired. Does anyone make a 5.25” barrel in 9x19 and has anyone seen a sight mount with just three holes like this pistol has? Trying to find out what I’m getting myself into before I pull the trigger.
Thank you

Believe the Silver Team is on a large frame.  If that is the case you can get barrels directly from EAA, also conversion kits if you want.  See lots of EAA products at matches, and they all seem to run pretty well.

Good luck.  Hope all turns out well.

The gun in the Imgur images is a small frame Tanfoglio and appears to be an earlier EAA import. Is that ‘IMI’ stamped on the side of the barrel next to 9x19?

You may be right.  Understand that small frames are still made for European market.  EAA may be able to get you a barrel, even though they no longer import small frame Witness pistols.

Best wishes.

Thank you for the responses. It is stamped IMI next to the 9x21 designation.  I do also believe it to be a small frame from what I have been able to research. I called was and emailed them and I’m waiting on a response. I was surprised to see the limited amount of after market barrels made. Is the scope mount hole pattern  also something that is no longer utilized?

That pattern is no longer utilized on current pistols that are imported.  If I remember correctly there are no ports in the barrel but does have a comp.  There were issues with timing and it was some what picky as to what ammo would work reliably in the pistol.  Also to make full use of the comp you will need to run fairly hot loads of slow burning powder.  VV 3N37, AutoComp, Power Pistol and AA7 are the powders that were used.  There is a web site where more specific information on the Tanfoglio pistols can be found:

Hope this helps.

Had one almost exactly like it in 9x21mm in the early 1990's, till I got tired of Race Gun Shooting.  The Powders I used back then were either W540 or VV3N37.
Mine had no Israeli Markings, just Tanfoglio and EAA Witness.

BTW, the Small Frame Tanfoglio Pistols do show up from time to time from EAA and all of the RIA/Tanfoglio Pistols are based on the Tanfoglio Small Frames in either Steel or Polymer.

IFG in Texas imports small and large frame Tanfoglio pistols. I just bought an all steel IFG ‘Defiant Stock I’ small frame 9mm. I believe EAA still imports small and large frame polymer pistols too.
