Well...dang
« on: January 18, 2021, 01:16:08 AM »
As many of you know, I have been using a wonderful private range just north of me for a few years now. Until today. Somebody made some sort of stink, don't know what, but access is revoked for everyone. So I will have to go back the free CG range...once I find the guy I loaned TUB to and get him back. Dang it all. Shoot.

maybe someone or a few took high powered guns that you know were incredibly LOUD? and just kept at the noise level?

maybe someone or a few went there to party?

maybe someone was not invited to the range and protested?

too many variables, up to and including maybe someone bought the land and will develop it into either a shopping mall or condos?
Just  getting on thru retirement., and into the sport of shooting, with anyone of my......21 handguns, either semi-automatics, or revolvers

Regulations in the US regarding where you can and where you cannot shoot are very friendly. In Europe ranges are either closed due to covid or overcrowded. If you would like to shoot at 300m or more it's extremely difficult to find a range at all. In countries like Netherlands or Belgium you have to literally drive to another country to shoot long range. In Czech Republic I know only one 500m shooting range.

I don’t know where exactly armoredman’s range is at, but I know the area. Lots of new people moving into the state fleeing whatever. Also a lot of people spending more time at home. Very likely someone didn’t like the noise. I live 7 minutes away from a designated range and can sometime hear it. It’s far enough away it doesn’t bother me. Plus I knew it was there from the start. The CG range that is close by is very nice but you have to set up everything, have to deal with anyone that is there (can be an issue when a moron shows up), and can be difficult to get to when/after it rains. I feel for him. Always been a bit envious of the private setup, sad day indeed.

It is so much more relaxing to be somewhere private, or at least where no one else is shooting.

When I still lived in WV we'd load up our stuff, drive a few miles to one of the good spots on a reclaimed strip mine and set up and shoot.  Twenty-five yds. out to five hundred yards.

Only shot farther than 500 yds. one time and the darn crow didn't die, just flopped around for a bit and finally made it up in the air and flew to a tree.  Second shot scared him out of the tree and he flew on out of sight.  Greatest 600 yds. shot I ALMOST MADE.  I'd have that sucker mounted and sitting on the bedroom dresser to this day.  Still got the rifle and the memory.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

maybe someone or a few took high powered guns that you know were incredibly LOUD? and just kept at the noise level? Its in the middle of a farm - you could set off a low yield nuke and I think most people would n't hear it...

maybe someone or a few went there to party?Possible, possible

maybe someone was not invited to the range and protested?Private property, not public, same as protesting I wasn't invited to your home.

too many variables, up to and including maybe someone bought the land and will develop it into either a shopping mall or condos? Now that one I knw for a fact isn't true - the riginal land owner still owns it, great family.

That's not good - here in AZ alone I know of two professionally maintained 1,000 yard ranges. I can't even SEE a thousand yards...

AZ_CZ, I'll be back out to the CG range soon, probably next weekend after I get some parts in. I went there to shoot recently and it was vacant, but now, not too sure. Ammo is being hoarded but LOTS of new and untrained shooters...this could be an experience.

New shooters are definitely an issue. I can shoot at home, but for higher volume practice I still keep a range membership. Some things are just painful to watch, even when safety protocols are maintained. Several times now, I've respectfully offered to help a new shooter because I couldn't stand to watch them repeatedly miss an 18x24 steel target at 15yds or less. All things considered, I sure like shooting on a quiet range.

Suppose to rain all week starting tonight so good luck with that LOL Of course that could mean 2” here and nothing down there. Rain is definitely an iffy thing in the desert.
