Today's experience in 20-30 mph wind 97B"E" at 100 yards

There is a cold front approaching so I went to the range mid morning before it got cold but while the winds were high.  A month ago I got some experience shooting in a good cross wind so I wasn't quite as tentative this outing.  Plus I had a good day on Monday, so nothing to lose here, plenty to gain.

I tried one new approach this time.  I aimed one video camera at a barrier tape wind flag and synchronized it with the shooter and target cameras.  So there are three simultaneous camera views in this video.  I shot four 5 round groups on this target.  There are no super good groups today but there is a demonstration of how I handled the wind hold through four groups (20 rounds).   I did shoot one 5-3/4" group but the wind had died down some during that sequence.

I shot another target after this one and it was similar enough to the first one to leave it out of the video.  And I screwed up the autofocus on the wind flag camera after restarting it after the first target.  I learned a lot about "shooting" with that camera today, also.

So, another good day with the CZ pistol and the video gear.  Forty educational rounds.  No damaged cameras this time, nothing electronic got blown off the table today.  I used four sandbags to hold stuff down.

I no longer fear shooting in high winds, I'm just not very good at it yet.  I'm still trying to get used to making a wind call while aiming and prepping the trigger.  That's an additional complication to the 100 yard bench rest technique, that's for sure.

Low 20's tonight but not much wind on Wednesday.  I will shoot again, I hope.  We got a little snow this afternoon.

40 -50 mph winds are the norm here in Wyoming most of the time, you learn to shoot in the wind or you don’t shoot...and on the few days whine the wind stops ..wow do your groups tighten!

And I had to drive nearly 600 miles to get to some elevation and wind!  We had wind where I lived for many years in West Texas, but nothing like Wyoming in the winter.  I spent some time near Opal and on I-80 working on the gas processing plants many years ago.  Never got to shoot there, though.
