It's just simple curiosity. No hidden agendas. Age 65, having some fun with guns...etc.

It's doubtful that many/any were imported in 2020/2021.

There must be a fair number of the VZ 2008s floating around also. At times I try to briefly mention the VZ "gospel', but luckily draw mostly totally blank stares.  ???

The blank stares are actually a good thing ($), knowing that enough word has gradually circulated about the quality, but also peoples' growing awareness of Czech quality. 8)

Bought a legit CSA VZ58 a few months ago. Have owned a 2008 for a few years now. I'm also building a VZ on a AWO receiver and parts kit. I want one dressed in beaver barf, one in beech wood, and one all tacti-cool'd out once all is said and done. Also bought a zpap recently since it's the "darling of the moment" in the community. I don't see the appeal to the ak platform tbh. It's heavy, clunky, and seems archaic in comparison. The things I DO like about the ak over the vz is that it's much easier to charge since you're only overcoming a recoil spring instead of a recoil and linear hammer springs; and recoil is much smoother on the ak.

czkyle1776:    My AKs saw about 5,000 rds. before buying the VZ Sporter; Maadi (Intrac), AMD-65 (TGI, all-matching components) and the stamped MAK 90.

Was very used to the barely-polished hammers and rails causing friction.

Wish I could have justified money for a cool ZPAP, but already had enough AKMs. To me the better AKMs represent tough, solid character, and also like the wood furniture with Red Mahogany Minwax stain, oil-based.

I don't think it's purely friction though. I think by sheer design the vz is harder to rack due to the two springs. When I say "hard" I don't want to imply that it's a struggle to charge it either. My wife, for instance, is able to rack it just fine. You probably wouldn't normally even notice it if you were just shooting the vz, but when we go to the range we take multiple guns at a time. So it's usually back to back with the ak or even the bren 2 that you really notice the increased effort to rack it. It's not a deal killer by any means. Just an observation when comparing the two platforms. Vz, imho, still bests the ak on almost all fronts. I like all guns :D

My comment was about AKM hammer and rail drag, not in my Czechpoint Sporter.

If the VZ has a bit, then I don't notice it, and the unique engineering gives this gun such interesting appeal and variety.

Have both and don't feel much difference between two spring weights.  Vz58 action definitely smoother, but also a definite point of second stage spring pressure.  AK really can't distinguish between the operating mechanism resetting the trigger, etc, bumps and spring pressure increases.

AK receiver is an inch or so longer than Vz58 that would explain the need for not having two stages of spring pressure.

And I can understand how someone with smaller and more sensitive fingers would find a curved and flat AK charging handle more comfortable than the straight and rounded Vz58 one.  BUT the fact that the Vz58 has last shot bolt hold open also means your working your charging handle a lot less...

Got my old Cz.858 back from a friend. The old CSA was ok, but it’s hard to beat the real deal.
