S&W 39-2
« on: June 14, 2021, 09:28:36 AM »
Picked up this 1977 ex police 39-2 at the LGS for $ 430

They were using Sig P220, same as the Swiss army. So I asked the LGS who is a former cop, he was even in the local SWAT. Basically it was down to price, the Smith was 300 Swiss francs cheaper.

GV is for Gendarmerie Vaudoise (Vaud being the state I live in, in Western Switzerland)

25 m, not great so far

This is my ex Police Lausanne P220 also from 1977

Very very Nice S&W M39-2 and 9mm Sig P220!  8)   Congratulations!  :)

My very first handgun was an S&W M39 basic (no dash).  I later traded it for a S&W M19 .357 Magnum Revolver, which later got traded for a WWII Walther P38, which I still have.  I have often thought of picking up one of the M39's successors such as the S&W 5906, but have never found a good deal on one.

I also had a Sig P220A in .45 ACP.  While it was a very good .45, it always seemed to lose out to my .45 Tanfoglio Witness Pistols and was sold off along with a few other firearms to fund my L1A1 FN FAL project.  I also had an excellent 9mm Sig P226 which was an excellent handgun.

Yikes! A pistol from 1977 is a classic. Dang I’m old  :-\ I was shooting them when they were new. Loved the reliability of the Gen 3 5900 series.

Nice looking shooter! Treat her well.

I still have and carry the stainless version 639. The shorter slide is easier to conceal and the model 39 fits my hand well. It's always been reliable. Up till about 10 years ago locally you could pick up a model 39 for about $250. Like a lot of things those days are gone.

In modern pistol terminology, a "classic" is anything not made of plastic
