CZ 36

Hi All,
This is my first post ever in C&R.  So, please be patient with me!

An old friend asked me to check out an old .25 caliber pistol that he has owned for about 50 years.  He is not a gun guy and I doubt he ever shot this gun.  So after a  little research I discover that the gun is a CZ model 36.  It has one magazine and a leather holster. 

My friend truly doesn't know anything about this firearm.  In fact, he just got his permit to carry a firearm at 78 years of age.  He was asking if this gun would be a good pocket carry piece?

From what I have read, this seems to be a firearm that is somewhat rare.  I believe that in total there were only 12,000 made, but few have the AKAH markings as this one does.
So, is there collector value to the CZ 36?  Who should I contact to sell such a gun?

As a first time poster, you wouldn't be allowed to offer it for sale here until after you have made the requisite number of posts (see the Pinned posts in the New Member area.

Answering your questions...25 ACP is not really consider a good pocket carry, especially with only a 6-round magazine.

I have several DUOs, a "Z" and a CZ 45...all 25 ACP. 
They are all considered "vest pocket guns", good only at close range with accurate shots.

As far as places to sell, you might consider:

- Gunbroker.com (auction site)
- Gun shows (individuals can sell to other individuals or an exhibitor of C&Rs might be interested.
- Local Gun Stores might give you credit toward purchase of another gun
- In Houston, there is Collector's Firearms that may accept it on consignment to sell

Before you sell, it would be a good idea to have a gunsmith take a look at it to make sure that it would be safe to shoot.

Do you think you could post a picture or two on this thread so that we can comment on the proof marks?

Hi,
This is very much a collectable pistol.  The one I have came in a black 'plastic' holster with 2 magazines. It was $600 back in '06.  Current value is hard to estimate as these are rarely offered for sale. I would estimate possibly as much as $1000.

Gunbroker would probably be the best place to sell it. They have a separate 'Collectable Firearms' section that would be just the spot for it.

The pistol does not bear any acceptance stamp from the German Wehrmacht.
But the stamp AKAH. This means that this weapon was sold privately.
Until around 1941, German officers had to procure their side arms privately. However, it is not easy to tell whether that was the case with this pistol.
Are there any  handwritten labels inside the holster? On several occasions the owners of a pistol have written something like this on the inside of the holster."

There were no notes inside the holster.
The only other stamp was on the barrel.
I am seeing where these guns sold for $1,000 back in 2010.  I saw a recent post for $1,600.
I was unaware that gunbroker.com had a separate area for collectable firearms.  I will look into that.

FYI - If I was to sell a CZ36 I would make sure the pictures are close to professional as possible. These are hard to find pistols and the sharper the details of the markings, etc. the more attention the auction will gather.
