Just brought home my new 452 Varmint in .17HMR. Can't wait to run a few rounds through it. She is a beauty, what height rings should I use to mount a Bushnell 6-18x50mm obj. Thanks for your help!!:D

BKL 257-A. They only come in one heighth and your 50MM scope will fit. Get them at many places including Brownell's, Sinclair, and many airgun suppliers.

I also just purchased a 452 varmint in 17hmr to go with my 452 lux in .22 and 527 lux in .223. I have the BSA Sweet 17 scope and have shot all 4 brands(Hornady, CCI, Remington and Federal) of ammo thru my new 'Varmint' with varying results.
I'm interested how yours or anyone elses is shooting. I've floated the barrell and use a Harris bipod and a sandbag under the stock. 5 shot groups at 50 yards and 10 shot groups at 100. Barrell "bore snaked" after each group.
My best 50 yard group was 5/8 inch with federal and 3/4 with the Remington. The best 100 yard group was 1 3/4 with Federal and 1 15/16 with Remington. The best single shot from a cleaned (bore snaked) barrell was the Remington at 3/4 inch.
I'm hoping for less than 1 inch groups at 100 before I try longer distances.
My next move will be a bedding job and some trigger work (about a mile of creep)
Since this is a realitively new model I've found no other info on this rifle and if any one has one please reply

It seems that CZ-UB has contractually signed a consent of some sort with a U.S. company(can't remember the firms name) to get a fairly impressive number of: CZ-452 .17HMR Varmint.
It seems it was in the contract that all other CZ-452 .17 HMR coming out from CZ-UB (incl. CZ-USA) would have the designation of: CZ-452 American(this was supplied in a heavy barrel configuration).

In either case an e-site by the name of Rimfire Central has the latest info. on CZ-452s in any caliber, basicaly the .17 HMR needs the same modifications as the old .22 l.r. to squeeze precision out of it. Any other mfgr.(by CZ-UB or any other firm) in .17 HMR, .22 l.r., .22 Win. Mag. need to have modifications to bring out the best of what they're capable.

The 452 I have is Varmint model. It has a shorter barrel than the American by 1 1/2 inch and has no checkering on the fore stock. The American models I've seen all had a much lighter barrel. Also 4 out of 5 of the "dealers" I called couldn't find a listing for the Varmint.
Thank you for the Rimfire central link

The American version may have a smaller diameter BUT mesured from where:

-from the muzzle?

-from the same receiver to barrel/distance 1 1/2''?

These difference may not have the same(impact decision-vise) if the barrel is tapered.

The Varmint stock is based from an Australian design/demand for a shorther rifle, as to be able to carry it during hunting season in their vehicles(thus able to having a handier rifle in confined space). The stock design ressembles Parker-Hales model 81-84 sniper rifles with a slight palm swell in the grip section, making this a man-sized rifle(even if shooter is small handed). Notice that there has'nt been no CZ-452 American in heavy barrelled version in .22 l.r.

The info I'm using is the CZ-USA website. My Varmint has a 21" barrel, longer fore stock to "support" the heavier barrel and no checkering on forestock.
It's interesting there is confusion about these models. I'll be very carefull to make sure any one offering advice about a Varmint trully has one and not a heavy barrel American.
I found a very interesting posting on rimfirecentral about a fellow supposidly with a Varmint who had the same grouping results. He "pillar bedded and glasbedded" with tremendous results. Good news for me and thank you for the rimfirecentral referral!
