TSO 9mm and .40 magazine differences
« on: August 04, 2021, 05:21:35 PM »
I haven’t shot my TSO .40 for maybe a year. Since I have a 9mm slide for it, I have a mix of 9mm and .40 mags. I want to make sure I am using the right mag for the right slide.

There are caliber stamped on the side of each mag. However, when looking at them otherwise, I can’t tell a difference other than the witness holes on round count.

After some more careful checks, I do see two different types of the followers as pictured.

The problem is I have both types that are stamped as 9mm or .40 inconsistently. Could I have mixed them up when I cleaned them before? Can anyone please shed some light?

Thanks for the info. I wonder if they were made to be compatible between the two calibers on purpose.

The one on the left looks like a 40 follower. Did you measure the feed lip distance?

I didn’t measure but the two mag bodies are identical aside from the witness holes. It’s easy to tell that the two followers are different and they are both CZ factory mags. I was hoping people can help by taking a look at their CZ mags and see which one is for what caliber they have.

I will have to find my stock followers.  I swapped the stock followers out for Grams followers and have extended base pads for competition.

I think I still have them somewhere...

Cheers,
Toby

They do indeed look the same.

I never paid any attention to them prior to your post.  And it seems that the only thing that makes one magazine  a 9 and the other a 40 is the amount of bend in the magazine lips.  Either magazine will fit in both TSO's.

Due to this, I have filled in the caliber roll mark on each magazine with white finger nail polish.  I really hope this prevents a major problem in the future.

Gunzip, I think you nailed it. I looked closer at my mags. Clearly the .40 ones have wider lips than the 9mm ones. Measurements with a caliber confirmed this. But it can be seen just by looking at them. The 9mm lips are bent more than .40 at the opening.

Edit: based on this finding the one on the left of my pic in post#1 is also a .40. But it’s interesting that it has a different follower.

Good to know all the differences. Thank you. I don’t know where I got that left one from but I know it shoots well so far.
