And to think I used to dislike striker fired service pistols...
« on: October 07, 2021, 04:19:19 PM »
Another great day with the P-10F and new Primary Machine Match barrel at 100 yards from a wrist rest.  Here is a 2 minute video of the two best groups from this morning.

The gun seems to be very consistent now, just like my P-09, which is my standard for consistency and accuracy...along with the 97B"E".

A sweet shooting pistol is....sweet.  Joe, you're making me want that P07 PM barrel even more.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Very nice.  What difference(s) do you notice between the stock barrel and this Primary Machine one?

The grooves are smooth so there isn't any uneven buildup of carbon and copper.  The factory barrel shot very well dirty, but the accuracy fell off when I cleaned it thoroughly.  I couldn't depend on it shooting perfectly every trip out.  The Primary Machine barrel seems very consistent with an even and slow buildup of copper and carbon and no change from one light cleaning to the next.  Both barrels shoot exceptionally well, but the factory barrel isn't consistent because of the rough machine work.  The Primary Machine barrel is more like my smooth factory P-09 barrel--very consistent whether it has been deep cleaned or just light cleaned.

Excellent.  In your opinion, is it a worthwhile upgrade?

It is an excellent upgrade for me.  But I'm comparing them at 100 and 200 yards, not 10-25.  I think the factory barrel is fine for its intended purpose and that one would not see much difference at short range, assuming a factory barrel as good as mine.  (I am sure there are some less accurate P-10F barrels out there than mine.)  My factory barrel would still group 8-10" when clean (and that is the worst case) at 100 yards but 4" at times when it was "sufficiently fouled".  The Primary Machine barrel seems to be fine for 4" every day, if my eyesight cooperates.  A 10" group at 100 yards is 2-3" at 25 yards.  That is still pretty good for a service pistol.  If you want consistently better than 2-3" at 25 yards, the Primary Machine barrel may be worth it to you.  I simply don't want to consume the ammo it would take to find the sweet spot on cleaning vs filling in the rough spots when shooting 100-200 yards with the factory barrel, thus the Primary Machine barrel saved me enough in ammo cost to pay for itself.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.  Worked on my wife!

Another thing.  Primary Machine has been one of those shops that has always delivered top quality work.  I try to support them just like I do CGW and CZ Custom.  I think they got some sales out of the 100 yard videos I posted last week.  At least I hope so.  Didn't cost me anything to help them out and I want them to continue to be successful.

Thanks.  That helps.  I really like my P10F OR as-is, but am a sucker for incremental improvement.
