P-10 C repair update

Some of you lads may recall that I purchased a new P-10 C at Academy Sports about 7 weeks ago.  When I got it home and pulled it apart, I saw that the cutout on the barrel that seats the recoil spring assembly was not centered.  This was somewhat of a surprise and disappointment to Powernoodle.

So Academy Sports returned the gun to CZ at no cost to me.  Thumbs up for Academy Sports.

About 5 weeks later, I received the gun from Academy.  Factoring in transit time, CZ had the gun 3 or 4 weeks.  Not lightning fast, but not slow either.  I'm happy.

CZ replaced the barrel, polished the breech face (according to the invoice) and test fired the gun.  Back in my hands, it runs 100% on a variety of FMJ and Federal HST.

The P-10 C is what the Glock 19 would have been if Gaston cared about ergonomics, metal sights, a first-rate trigger with short reset and a deep beaver tail that swallows the hand.  The trigger safety on this sample does not bind as it did on my P-10 F.

So, high marks to CZ customer service and to Academy Sports.

I've had to send a couple CZ's back over the years it does happen. I've had to send back Sig's, S&W's and Walther's as well and CZ is the only one of the group that fixed the issues the first time the guns were sent in. The other brands made more than one trip for the same issue and an S&W and a Walther both made three trips each before they were properly fixed. One Sig was never fixed and found a new home in a hurry.
CZ Customer Service is of the best I've ever dealt with.

I once returned a S&W Shield 45 because it made a horrific grinding noise when racking the slide.  Turned out that the "stripper rail" or whatever its called in the top of the slide is serrated on that gun, whereas every other semi auto on earth has a smooth rail.  So it was returned to me without repair, as none was needed.  I think those grooves are intended to prevent the top cartridge in the mag from moving under recoil, but I may be wrong about that.  They sent it back to me without comment or explanation.

I also twice returned a S&W 686 Plus, because the front sight was not vertical.  Twice S&W returned it to me without an adjustment, saying they liked it just fine as is.  This has turned me off just a little from S&W, but that's another story.


S&W 686 Plus 5".  Its a fine piece of gun irrespective of the front sight.  Shame on me for not noticing it at the time of purchase.  Shame on S&W for sending it out the door like that and twice not fixing it.  But there are worse problems one can have, so I'm not too grumpy about it.

So as for the three guns I have sent back to the factory in my life, CZ wins as to customer service.

The 'canted" barrel issue with S&W revolvers drove many people nuts for quite a spell a few years back. Many sent their guns in multiple times for the issue before it was corrected. I sent one back twice for that problem before it came back with the barrel torqued in the straight up position. This is what happens when you employ unskilled people off the street to do jobs that were done in the past by trained craftsmen and true gunsmiths.

I had a Shield 45 as well. Never did get comfortable racking that slide. I just figured they were horrible chatter marks.
