Noisy Kydex holster
« on: October 10, 2021, 11:15:29 AM »
Hey gang, right now as I speak I'm in a quiet garage leaning over my workbench looking at my phone. I am wearing a leather gun belt and an all Kydex holster for my P-09.
I never noticed this before but my slight movements standing here in the quiet of the garage my Kydex holster is making groaning and creaking sounds I guess the Kydex rubbing on the leather belt. Has anyone else experience this and found a fix to keep the Kydex holster from groaning and creaking while carrying? It's a little bit annoying I guess maybe cuz it's so quiet here.

I've had the best luck with leather belt / leather holster for low noise AFTER they break in to each other.

I also have a blue alpha low profile belt that is quiet with my IWB and OWB kydex holsters.

Noise was the primary reason I switched to leather. Then I realized how much(drastically) more comfortable leather is. I occasionally buy kydex if I'm in a hurry for a holster, but there's no substitute for properly crafted leather.

I had a leather holster but it wasn't quite as secure as I would like it  to be. I'm looking at possibly getting  the Urban carry lock leather holster.
Anybody have this?

If we're talking about level 1 retention, I feel like my leather holsters are every bit as effective as kydex. Buying good leather is a significant commitment though.

OMG, back in the spring Urban Carry was testing a lock leather holster that will be made a cut  for  RMR pistols.
Now they're saying testing won't be done until late this year. I mean what the hell.

I switched to leather OWB pancake holsters because Kydex was both uncomfortable and noisy. You can spend a lot more on leather but I am using Azula Gun Holsters. I find them affordable, well crafted, and comfortable (not a paid sponsor).

I normally run either a full-grain leather Kore Essentials belt for a lightweight IWB or one of their "tactical" nylon ones if I am going to carry something heavy and/or OWB.  I find the leather to be totally quiet with a Kydex shell and polymer clips.  The nylon ones tend to be more noisy, and for those I will occasionally apply a minimal amount 3M silicone lubricant with Teflon to the top and bottom edges, which usually kills the noise, at least for a while.  I mean a minimal amount, applied from a dripper bottle onto a q-tip, not hosing it down with a spray can.  For leather I'd probably be concerned about using silicone... maybe a small bit of Obenauf's oil or something instead.  I condition a lot of my leather stuff with Obenauf's, including my gun belt, with good success.  You don't want to use a lot of it on a leather holster to avoid softening it and ruining your retention, but a little bit on your loops and other contact points with the belt would probably be alright.
