Colt 1911 from 1917
« on: January 14, 2022, 07:16:18 AM »
Just before Christmas, LGS brought in this nice 1917 made Colt 1911. Rare bird here in Switzerland, so much so that he’s keeping it for himself and won’t sell it to me

I will keep pestering him a bit but I have little hope

Nice! I don't blame him, I wouldn't sell it either.

Thank you for sharing that.

My father handed down to me my Great Uncle's 1911 that shipped in May 1917, which he had carried while stationed in Europe.I had it and shot it for many years with some relatively light ball ammo reloads. Unfortunately I ran in to some difficult times back in the 2008 meltdown, where we pretty much lost everything. I sold that, and few others, to keep a roof over my family's head and some food on the table. It absolutely killed me to sell that 1911, but I knew I could get a premium price for it. Your pics brought back some great memories.
No matter where you're going, there you are.

That was looks like it's about 1000 guns "older" than mine.  First three digits on mine are 189XXX (I think, haven't handled or shot it in about 4 years now.  Took it to the range for it's 100th birthday and let my sons shoot it.  Emptied several partial boxes of different bullet styles/weights and all of it functioned/shot fine.

I don't have the original style magazine with mine.  Just some old GI 7 round magazines.

People usually say the old ones like don't have heat treated slides and the slides can crack on them.  I didn't know that and shot mine quite a bit between 1978 and 1982 when I bought a Combat Commander and started shooting it.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
