Recoil spring questions
« on: January 16, 2022, 10:38:43 PM »
I have a 2018 SP-01 manual safety with a CGW pro package. I am currently using the OEM flat spring and plastic spring guide. I purchased a red (12#) and gray (14#) spring from CGW, which I planned to use with a steel guide rod. The steel guide rod causes occasional failures to go into full battery, so I set it aside. This leads to my questions.
1.  Can the round recoil springs be used with the plastic guide rod?
2.   What is the rating of the OEM flat spring?
3.   Assuming there are no ejection issues, does a lighter spring result in more felt recoil and muzzle flip or less?
Thanks for your responses.

I'd be shocked if the guide rod was remotely responsible for the failures.  I'm going to assume your ammo is just slightly too long but without more info it's tough to speculate.  What ammo are you shooting and does it pass the plunk test?

1. Yes you can use the round spring with a oem guide rod.

2. 16lb

3.  Generally yes it should feel like the gun shoots flatter with a lighter recoil but that is really ammo dependent.

Cheers,
Toby

If I had known how much better being retired is than working I would have done it FIRST.

Just in case.....

"These guide rods will not work with the SP01 Flat Wire recoil spring #30033. The will work with the standard recoil springs."

"This polymer guide rod has a thicker diameter on one end, and as a result is stiffer/stronger than the factory guide rod. Works perfectly in my SP-01. No need for the stainless guide rod, unless you like adding more weight to an already heavy gun."  reviewer

BTW if your same ammo works flawlessly with your factory polymer guide rod and flat wire spring then you may be onto something suspecting your SS rod and/or recoil spring alternatives....

My 2021 SP-01 Tactical with the 75 Spring Kit extended firing pin with a steel guide rod and 12# Red Spring functions 100%.
I reached out to GGW before I bought the guide rod and spring and told them my SP was for range use and Home Defense. They advised that I use the 12R Spring. The action of the slide is very smooth. The felt recoil is close to my Sig 1911 Tacops in 9mm. Which feels like shooting a water gun.

In spite of the fact that this is my first CZ, and I followed Atlas' nice tutorial when I installed the pro package, it is hard for me to imagine how the gun can perform any nicer. I guess I will find out on my next range trip when I try the 12R and 14G springs with the plastic guide rod. Thanks again everyone for the helpful responses.
