CZ "Blemish" Firearms
« on: February 02, 2022, 10:15:28 AM »
Was recently on the "Gunsinternational.com" site and noticed Cabela's listing for sale numerous models of CZ firearms with the "Blemish" notation in the ad.

I was not aware that CZ sold "blemish" models of their firearms. I know that Dan Wesson (owned by CZ) sells/used to sell "Blemish" guns.

Anyone have info regarding CZ "blemish" guns.

Nope never heard of let alone seen CZ selling blems that way. I looked on the site and it appears Bass Pro has some as well. I saw a couple serial numbers with an upside down Y at the end and that's the symbol DW uses to identify the blems when they sell them. Sure doesn't look like they cut the prices much though.

Seems as though there are several Cabelas locations listing these "blems".  I was thinking perhaps CZ made some type of a special deal with a large retailer like Cabelas. And I agree Cabelas does not have competitive pricing on most firearms.

This is the first I've seen a blem CZ so who knows on any deal they may have made. Cabelas and Bass Pro may have gotten a deal on their end but they certainly are not passing the savings along. I know DW lays down a pretty fair discount when they have blems to sell and normally the dealers reciprocate that to the consumer.

They've been around for a long time. They can be a good deal as they have the regular mechanical warranty (no finish warranty) if it's a truly a blem gun sold by CZ-USA. Any model CZ-USA sells could potentially have a blem version. Sometimes they are sales samples that were never shot, sometimes they were shot, other times it could have been a warranty repair the customer no longer wanted for whatever reason, or a few other reasons.

Guns International and Cabella's have teamed up in the past to sell both Dan Wesson and the CZ line of blemished guns. I haven't ever actually seen one but supposedly the blemishes are cosmetic and considered pretty trivial normally.

Most of my CZs ARE the blem models. My understanding is that they were demo models. I've never found an actual blemish on one.

I have never seen CZ ever advertise a "blem" model anywhere. However, deals with distributors can come up with oddballs once in a while.

I've never seen them openly advertised by CZ either. Just something that gets offered to authorized dealers (and distributors and chain stores) from time to time.

I have definitely seen a BLEM marked Dan Wesson on gunbroker. I looked around and found some posts on other forums of people showing off their “BLEM” and how they had a document detailing the reason it’s listed as a BLEM and the owner couldn’t see anything wrong.

My expectation is that they have a contract with a distributor or two that they can sell them to at a lower price.

They are definitely out there. Any gun CZ-USA has can potentially end up as a blem. The DWs are the only one's that consistently come with a sheet listing what the blem is. I can't recall seeing one for a shotgun or CZ pistol. Though that only applies to ones that were marked as blem at DW factory. The ones that were sales samples rarely if ever have a blem sheet, whatever product line it was from.

More often than not people couldn't find the blem, sometimes even with a sheet showing them what it was. DW is particularly meticulous. I've seen ones that had a needle point sized mark in the finish that would be sold as a blem because it was unacceptable for a new DW. Other times it was something under a grip panel that wasn't even visisble without removing grip. Sometimes it is something a bit more substantial like the size of a cut, I recall one that had 24 lines of checkering instead of the 25 it should have had. But the great thing about them is they still have the regular mechanical warranty, they just don't warranty finish/cosmetics. They'll still shoot fine, and especially in the case of DW blems can be a couple hundred dollars cheaper than a regular one.
