solution to trigger bite/pinch problem
« on: April 16, 2022, 10:15:05 AM »
I posted about this problem earlier, and I wanted to let people know that I found a solution.

I've owned a CZ P-10F for about three years now, but I never could bring myself to shoot it very much because of the pain in my trigger finger.  At first I didn't even understand what was going on, but as it turns out, the skin on my finger was getting pinched between the trigger guard and the bottom of the trigger.  This happened with the stock trigger first, then with an HBI trigger, and lastly with an Apex trigger.  The Apex was the worst; it gave me a blood blister after about 150 rounds.  One solution might be to decrease the space between the trigger and the guard, but I decided to go the other way by shortening the HBI trigger and rounding it off (including rounding off the safety dingus).  When I was done, I polished the bare aluminum.  I also polished the trigger guard to the extent that I could.  I have now shot one practice session (about 250 rounds) and one match (about 150 rounds) without any pain whatsoever.

Here are some photos in case anyone is interested in trying this:

Let me know if you can't view the photos and I'll try again.

I am glad you found a solution. FYI, the cheapest solution is to put a bandaid on your finger. I have stated this several times only to be ignored. Hickok45 of YouTube fame uses the bandaid solution. If money is no object another solution is to get the longest trigger possible. CZ uses the latest generation HBI trigger on th P-10F Competition. I use that same trigger and it solved my pinched trigger problem as is almost touches the trigger guard. There is not enough room to get any part of my finger between the trigger and the trigger guard.

HBI is on the third generation of their trigger. Cajun Gun Works claims their trigger is longer than the stock trigger. They have a similar look.

OP, you're gun, your finger, you took care of it, way to go.

Funny how what pinches one shooter isn't noticed by another shooter, or the opposite.

My P07 Duty .40 was perfect, no issues.  Got a P09 9MM and no issues.  P07 Duty has the older curved trigger and kicks a bit due to the loads I shoot in it vs. a 9MM load/bullet weight in the bigger P09.  I got a P09 .40 and that trigger (exactly like the 9Mm P09 trigger) worked my finger over to the point where I didn't want to shoot it.  Finally ordered and installed the older curved P07 DUTY trigger and only had to shave a small amount of plastic from the inside of the trigger guard to stop the bottom of the trigger from making contact and hanging up - but it no longer hurts my trigger finger.

If you find something that works for you, great.

So, how does it shoot?  Groups I mean.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I had a similar issue on my P-07's.  I sanded the casting line out from inside of the trigger guard, underneath the trigger, and then polished it up some with a rotary tool using a felt drum and blue compound.  Worked out okay for me.

Ecrevisse: I did try the bandaid solution at one point (medical tape, actually), and it certainly works.  I like to tinker, though, and I also didn't like the idea of adding another step in the shooting prep process, however small it may be.  If I get another P-10F as a backup competition gun, I plan to try the 3rd generation HBI trigger.

M1A4ME: My P-10F seems to be just as accurate as my Shadow 2.  I can hold a 4" group with either one at 25 yards.  I am sure they are both more accurate than I am, but I don't know the exact mechanical accuracy of either gun.  Based on my performance at a recent USPSA match, I can also say that the P-10F seems to be on par with the Shadow 2 as a competition gun.  I can't split quite as fast with the P-10, so I know I gave up a little bit of time there, but my overall performance was at least as good as usual.

It's stuff like this that keeps me from spending money on the high dollar pistols.  I just don't see how one could be as accurate as my P09.  First time I shot it I was at the range by myself.  Either 10 or 12 yards.  First shot, a tad low I thought, from point of aim.  Second shot, where did it go?   How could I miss that whole piece of paper??  Third shot, now I get it.  The hole is just enough bigger than it was (after the first two shots) that I can tell they're going to the same spot.  First three shots tearing a hole barely big enough for me to tell it's not a one bullet hole.  And, then, of course, I fell apart and had a terrible time making my finger think the sight picture/alignment/POA was good enough to squeeze off the next shot.  And, of course the group was pretty ugly compared to those first three.  Sometimes my best group of the day is that first one.  Then I spend the rest of the day trying to repeat it.

I know not every P10 (or P09) is going to shoot the same but sometimes we get lucky, don't we.

I also always thought that my p09 was the best shooter that I have. Until, I purchased a not made anymore third generation all stainless steel Smith & Wesson 4516-1 Compact (45acp ).
Even less felt recoil than the P-09 and wow , what a tack driver.
