Source for good quality small screwdrivers?
« on: July 11, 2022, 10:21:21 PM »
I have several pistols that have Holosun Red dots, and two SAR's with adjustable sights.  Both of the sights have extremely small windage and height adjustment screws, and the Holosuns in particular are pretty stiff.
I have one or two really good hollow ground screwdrivers, way too big for the sights, would like to get good screwdrivers with decent sized handles, and good screw tips.  Holosun supplies a "screwdriver" which does not live up to the name- the SAR's sights are even smaller screws.
Anybody know who would have such screwdrivers? hopefully not sets where you don't need 80% of the sizes.
I have tried Brownells and a few other sources, no luck.

Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges - Tacitus

Inter arma enim silent leges - Cicero

I wasn't born in America, but I got here as fast as I could.

thanks Grendel-I did manage to google up crawford mfg. They seem to have a perfect fit with the little tiny
bits and what they call 'spinners' (screwdriver handles) which can be bought a piece at a time.

Amazon has Many kits listed including Lyman and Wheeler. I have a set of Craftsman small screwdrivers with flats, phillips, and torx that has served me well.

I've purchased a screwdriver kit from Smith&Wesson. It is quality and the flat blade screwdrivers are hollow ground and precise. I've also purchased both metric and SAE small screwdrivers and hex drivers with the Wiha brand. Wiha is a German tool brand, however the tools themselves are made in Poland. They are extremely well made and precise as well. I've now pretty much covered the gamut for gunsmith screws and hex set screws. I previously, 4 years ago, purchased ball end hex keys which are valuable when working on trigger set screws.
Liberty, it starts with self ownership. You own you. Everyone owns themself. The essence of freedom and liberty is to allow everyone to pursue THEIR idea of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happyness. In doing so, they may not violate your right to the same goals. Thus All crime is property crime.

I have a Wheeler kit, too big for the tiny screws on the sights.
Looks like Chapman mfg, not Crawford is the answer.

If you want quality you'd be hard pressed to find something better than Wera.
They make the best torx and hex head bits.
PB Swiss makes awesome tiny flat screw drivers.

Agree with mkd, Amazon has a good selection, I have bought a lot of Wiha tools there and they are quality tools.

Mine are a little older, so still made in Germany back then. Wiha was the "BMW" of screwdrivers.

You do know that Holosun makes a specific tool to mount and adjust their sights?

yep, and it is not ready for prime time. I have 3 Holosuns and the tool is what led me to post this rant.
I got some bits and a good handle from Chapman Mfg, piece by piece, no need to buy a kit, and they are
just what the doc ordered.  Full length of bit, not tapered, and really well made.
