Need CZ 75 Purchasing advise for California for IDPA & UDPSA
« on: December 03, 2022, 07:32:57 PM »
Hello everyone this is my first post.  I live in California :'( and shoot both IDPA and some USPSA.  I would like to purchase a CZ pistol, but the only ones I can get here are CZ 75 B, CZ 75 BD, and the CA 75 SP-01.  For IDPA, I will be using it for the ESP division.  Any suggestions and tips for customizing would be great.

I don't compete, and I don't have a CZ (yet). Following just because.  :)

I used both a CZ 75b and SP01T in my IDPA games ( also used my PCR and P01 Omega).  Of the 3 you mention, I recommend the SP01.  I have been very happy with mine and the extra weight up front helps with recoil management.

I prefer decockers and with decockers can shoot in SSP without the risk of manually decocking (pulling the trigger while manually lowering the hammer).  Some can do this fine, I prefer the decocker myself.  When I shoot the 75b, I
shoot it in ESP, cocked and locked.

With all that, any model you mention can serve you well.  You may want to look at the compact versions too.  Another option is the P07/09 series.  I have a P09 and am very impressed with it.  Not sure if California has those on its list.

Good luck and come back to tell us what decision you made.

First

Welcome from GA.

Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the sticky posts in the 'New Members' Forum and also the 'Important Information' sub-section.

Second

For CA you'll be limited to 10 round mags, but Production Class will limit you to that anyway. I also use an SP01 Tac, with decocker. All CZ's met "production" numbers and so you are pretty much free to modify the heck out of the gun and remain in the base class. This is because special grips, hammers, sights, triggers, etc, etc all come on one or other of the many "standard" CZ models based on the SP01.

I shoot an SP01 in IDPA.   I've installed the Cajun Pro trigger set so I shoot in ESP.   mine came with night sites so I plan to replace those once I figure out what I want

I think the SPO1 Tactical is a great platform for USPSA and IDPA.  I've shot mine in both but focus on USPSA more recently.

I'd focus on the ergonomics at first and not worry about much else from a customization standpoint until you figure out what you want to change on your own.  You be better off spending money on ammunition and training when first starting out.  Good grips that fit your hand size (large hands don't need LOK thin bogies, they should have palm swell bogies).  Upgrade the sights if they come with night sights.  A fiber optic front and blacked out rear is needed.

Cheers,
Toby
