hard to shoot
« on: June 29, 2022, 10:18:21 AM »
I shoot with a guy that shoots very well with what I consider some less than ideal guns.  Mostly compacts, very fast and very accurate - consistently until........he bought a SP-01 (safety).  He went from winning to mediocre at best.........is there something about the SP-01 that makes it harder to compete accurately?  Nothing has been done to the gun and two other guys who also shoot very well shoot it great.
The gun may end up on here for sale sooner or later. (that is NOT a bid opening request)

Some guns fit one's hand better than others.
Most likely the SP01 grip is larger, and/or the trigger reach is longer, than his compacts and he isn't getting as good of grip on the SP01 as he does on the other pistols.

Agree with NeedCZ.  What is "Ideal" for one is not for all.  Change in grips and some time getting used to the new pistol may help, but may not.  I shoot my Shadow 2 much better than I do a Tactical Sport in the same caliber.  SA Trigger on the TS is fabulous, but I get a better grip on the S2, and score better even when using DA for my first shot.

Wish your friend well.

I would say it is probably a combination of grip size, angle and length of pull due o his hand size.

Or it could be any number of things.

He might be over-thinking the use of his new pistol

Or he could be having personal problems

Or he might not be sleeping well

Or he might be struggling with health issues

Or he might not acclimated himself to a different shooting platform

Or he might have expected a new gun to automatically improve his performance

Or he might have a pistol that needs different ammo

Or there might be something different about his diet

Or he might simply be in a temporary slump

It IS NOT easy to figure out when this happens.  But it does, and with practice, analysis, using relaxation techniques, or simply step away from shooting for a while, it will come back

Or it won't

Like I said . . . . it's not easy
