Shadow 2 optics milling
« on: August 29, 2022, 12:09:46 PM »
So people who’ve had their S2s milled for a dot who did you use and what was your experience. Looking to get my non OR S2 milled for a dot but want to make the right choice in who does it. Some lightening maybe but don’t want to go to crazy in cuts. The primary marching V1 looks pretty good so far that seems to be the top choice. I don’t want a plate system as I already have an OR and I want the dot to be as low as possible.

Dot wise I have an SRO on my OR and a P10f competition but I also have a brand new Romeo 3 max laying around I might use too.

CZ Custom did both of mine.  I went that way because of their plate system... and they go low with the plate, so best of both worlds .

I just purchased an Accu 2 and will use CZC to mill their RDS plate system into it.  I am going that route for the flexibility on optics and the fact that I can get a fixed iron sight plate and run production if wanted.  Both of these lead to better resale value in my mind.  Not that I'd ever sell a CZ but you know (never say never).

Cheers,
Toby

Fire-4-Effect in El Paso TX did the milling on both of my Shadow 2’s.  The first one was milled back in 2019 when the USPSA weight limit for Carry Optics was 45 oz, so F4E also did quite a bit of slide lightening cuts to get the overall weight + empty mag down to 44.1 oz.  When I sent my second gun to F4E for milling in 2020 I requested the same cuts even though the weight limit had been bumped to 59 oz to have the two guns identical in feel.

IMO if you’re going to direct mill for the SRO or Holosun red dot, F4E offers a really good option bc in addition to the optic pocket they also mill a couple dovetails for inserts to make the slide slightly wider at the location of the mounting screws.  If you look at some other company’s milling, part of the mounting screws are exposed due to the wider mounting footprint of the SRO/HS optic.  For the Sig Romeo 3 and DPP the mounting holes are narrow enough the screws are not exposed.

I’ve been shooting my F4E milled Shadow 2’s since 2019/2020 with over 30K rnds on the first one and no issues.

Just had mine done by Cajun Gunworks. So far so good but I’ve only put 100 rounds through it since putting the dot on. It’s holding tight, but I did have to do some minor filing on the rear edge to get it in; Otherwise very happy with all of the milling. CGW is always great to deal with but I would certainly recommend sending the optic along too.

Fire4Effect recently milled my TS2 Green.  They did a good job, communication was excellent and the price was fair.  Turn around time was a few weeks.

I've had CZC do two and they are great. You can even buy an S2 new with the milling and some work
