Kinda like the loaded magazine and spring question

Except, I'm wondering about keeping a slide locked back while stored
Good or bad for a recoil spring?

Same answer as with the magazines, doubtless the same disagreements too.
But why would you want to?

Storing a pistol with the slide locked back for a month is a good way to impart a set to the recoil spring, which makes the gun much easier to rack.  After the set is imparted I see no reason to continue to store the gun in such a manner.

Is it a bad idea to store rifles or shotguns locked back? It's the closest I can get to having the intruder "hear the shotgun pump" with my Vepr.

Why would you want to alert an intruder to your location?

Because they've seen too many movies and think the sound of that shotgun racking gives them a forcefield and some type of superpower that will scare the devil straight back to hell.

No, I feel safer having to drop the bolt than dealing with a safety.

Safeties get people killed.

LOL

Safeties get people who don't train regularly killed. A lack of a safety also gets people who don't train regularly killed.

I'm not very familiar with this because I don't use them, but I guess if you use one of those cable locks to disable your gun, then you'd probably want to leave the action open.

My semi-auto pistols are stored either ready-to-fire or completely unloaded, with each condition being stored in two different gun safes, and the unloaded ones having visual indicators like barrel blocks and/or blue mags installed.

If I use my shotgun on an intruder, the only sound they'll hear is a snick followed by a bright flash.
