97 wins over a new/old CMP 1911
« on: March 18, 2022, 05:52:49 AM »
Just got a CMP 1911 Service grade Colt / Colt yesterday. I have a PRS match this weekend and needed to zero the scope after work and wanted to run the new/old gun too. The 97B (stock carry) was already in my range bag so it got ran for comparison.
The 1911 felt small and diminutive compared to the 97 with fully loaded 12rd mags. Sights were WAY better. the 97 was more fun too, easier to shoot. Both at light handloads without any problems. the best part, at the end of the session, with the shadows sneaking up there were a couple of hot carry rounds that I shot because they were on the table after putting everything up. Compared to the wimpy target round I had been shooting it was a big difference. The muzzle flash and recoil and sound surprised me a bit. I thought I had taken my earplugs our or something, nope, just a couple of really big bangs to end the day with the 97!
Next paycheck if everything works out, I am hoping to send one off for the Econv.
Love the 97s! I "have" to shoot a glock match next month. I think I may take my old crappy bull shadow and stick it in a glock bag and take it up there just to be funny and show the poly pistol "purrrfection" guys what a real trigger feels like. If they are so "perfect" WTF do they still use paper scoring sheets in 2022? The people watching at glock matches is worth going. I really just want to take rifles and shotguns and shoot them at the rifle range while the poly pistols run.

yeah I saw those, the lg frame tangofo Henning mag ext do work for 12 rounds and are aluminium. I had the base plate in the mag at first that limited to 11 rounds-removed that and 12GTG.

I just did a roadbike ride (yes on the skinny tires and funny shoes) up the mountian with the CZ97 and extra mag in shoulder holster Open Carry.
It was great training weight. I did note that the extended mags did hit the thighs when down in the wind but it wasn't a major deal. Still I would prefer the stock mags. Also I noticed that when in the saddle going up the hills, you could torque the pedals to keep steady power and keep the gun from swinging back and forth with each (step) so to say. Much easier to do this smoothly with clipless pedals.

Anyway, was a fun ride and yes there will be more blatant eye rolling next time someone tells me that a steel gun is too heavy...

I do the same when someone says you can't concealed carry the 97... I do it and I'm not a big guy.
