Cz Checkmate Major loads
« on: September 06, 2022, 06:24:38 PM »
Ok so I ordered a Checkmate Parrot today and I'm having the barrel reamed to allow for longer o.a.l. Just curious if anybody can tell me what the best bullet would be for 9mm major. I'm probably gonna order some PD 124 either fmj or there JHP V2. My powders on hand are HS-6,VV350,Cfe pistol, and a little SW Major which I can get more of soon because Im friends with the owner which supplies powder for the company I work for. I have read over many forums and there is plenty of data out there but more or less looking for Checkmate specific bullet weight and best powder for activating the comp. Thanks any info would be helpful.

Feel free to post any load data you develop in this thread or continue the conversation. In the name of safety for the numerous novice reloaders we cater to, we only ask that the conversation be well marked and explained in novice language that these are NOT normal loads or safe to use in average pistols.

Thanks in advance.

Well my manson reamer is coming Monday I have on hand 1000 125 Hap .356 with some HS-6 and SWMP that I'm gonna try first then order some 115 and 124 PD HP. I will ream and make dummy loads up for testing o.a.l. I have a RCBS concentricity gauge that I hope will help in adding in the precise measurement of how much lead I'm getting. When I post data I will be sure to give a warning. Thanks for any further help from anyone.

I use 9.6 grains of Shooters World Major Pistol behind a 125gr Blue Bullets at 1.185 OAL and get 1330 fps. This is right at the bottom end of USPSA power factor. With 9.4 grains of Major Pistol I was 1308 fps and 9.2 grain I was at 1282 fps. The velocity was an average from a 10 shot string with Competition Electronics Chrony and the Czechmate with compensator and 54-55 degrees F and ~30in Hg.  Standard deviation was 8-10 fps.

I had similar results with Accurate #7 but the Major Pistol burned cleaner so I'll stick with it if I'm able to find it in the future.

With Montana Gold 124gr hollow points at 1.126 OAL I get 1347 fps with the same load (9.6 grains).

Of course, use the above information as reference and at your own risk. This is not a published load and shouldn't be used without the understanding of 9mm Major load development.

Warning this data is for 9mm Major only not intended for normal hand guns that aren't rated for 9mm Major.

Caliber:  9x19 Luger
Bullets:  Precision Delta 115gr FMJ
Brass:    New Nat Brass
Powder:  HS-6
Max Velocity:  1500 fps
Primer:  CCI SMP
OAL:     1.155"
Pistol:    CZ Checkmate "Parrot"
Qty:      10 rounds each, slow fired
Weather:  Indoor range 70 degrees
Chrono:  LabRadar
Ammo loaded on XL650 with Dillon Taper Crimp Die

Load      Avg Vel           SD
7.0gr        1245              19
7.3           1291              11
7.7           1390              10
8.0           1440              16
8.3           1485              13

NOTES:
• Metered very well due to small grain size
• Burned remarkably clean, even at 7.0gr
• Attribute the low SD numbers to the powder and not my reloading technique
• Recommend 8.3gr for competition to be on the safe side with power factor
• 10 yard group was 5 shots .55 in center to center free hand resting against wall

This is from a factory chamber because the Manson reamer would not lengthen throat because Checkmate barrels are nitride coated now. I guess they didn't use to be from what I gathered talking to CZ-USA on the phone.
