Hello All, Newbie Here
« on: September 19, 2022, 09:46:36 PM »
I'm a newbie when it comes to the VZ platform, I'll try to use my search-fu skills before asking any questions.  The AR platform I know well, former Marine and have assembled many an AR over the years.  AK platform I'm relatively new in, I own one PSA GF3 underfolder with fakealite furniture.

I bought a VZ58 side folder parts kit way back in 2003 or 2005 and a plastic receiver to build a dummy gun to put in my Russian Gear Up sidecar motorcycle.  My wife vetoed that plan as I already had a replica DP-28 mounted in the sidecar machine gun mount.  I wasn't taking up any more of "her" space with "useless crap".  So it sat in the closet, forgotten.  The complete parts kit and dummy receiver set me back a whopping 99 bucks back then.

This year I decided to look into making it into an operational weapon.  I had all the parts, except the compliance parts and real receiver.  I read all the horror stories about some of the receivers, and some do not even exist anymore, and Out of Stock was far too common.  Of course over the years I lost/misplaced some to the tiny bits and had to re-order them.  Naturally I'll come across them when least expected.

It looks like I missed the Golden Years in building this particular rifle.  Some of the parts that cost pennies now cost several dollars.  As far as the receiver, I went with TortTort as they seem to have a glowing reputation and were in stock.  I actually enjoyed cruising the web to find the best prices.

Without hesitation, I decided to go with Dan Brown, Samopal, for the build.  It can be said his prices are not the lowest, but if I'm going to put something that explodes next to my cheek, this is where you don't try to save pennies.  He's also a former Marine and I always try to support a brother.  After several email exchanges, I shipped it off.

Now I wait.

Thanks for the welcome, guys.

I know as of now I'll be totally helpless as far as assistance.  Any questions about an M1 Garand, AR, M14 platform, I gotcha covered.  VZ-58 ?  All I have is parts nomenclature....

I hope with time (and trigger time) that will change, after all I was a newbie on the other rifle platforms as well at one time.

Welcome to the channel.

Let me tell you that you can ABSOLUTELY TRUST DAN BROWN.  Yes, his trigger job prices do seem pricey, but I bet its great, and I wish now that I had invested in it.

He did a front end Krebs KCIMS job on mine and refinished the gun and his prices were EXCELLENT.  I had an older CP gun with the muzzle cap and I wanted to have options.  Dan did a SUPERB job and his communications were the best in the business.   He is worth every cent, and again, I think his prices are VERY reasonable.

That ain't no lie.  Before I sent it off, I probably had 7-10 emails with questions.  He quickly answered each one.  Even after I sent it, I would have a couple questions.  Again, no issue, fast response.  I had no idea he was THE man when it comes this platform until after I decided to send it off.

The hard part is not asking him how it's going/how far along/any updated delivery times.  He quoted 3-4 months, so I'm going to wait it out and leave him be.  The anticipation is killing me.
