There are too many people on the range!
« on: November 15, 2022, 05:40:28 AM »
No, not being unsafe, not being rude...but I haven't been able to make a video in two years! Or maybe longer, I lost track. Lost access to that private range I was using for a while, bummer.
But seriously - with the ammo shortages loosening up, have you noticed more people out at your favorite shooting spot? I am also seeing more families shooting, which is great.

Mr A, you can shoot and film as much as you want on my range.

Just drive on over.

Have they been restricting access to open desert shooting spots around you? The various .gov organizations have been closing areas around NW and NE Phoenix for years and I guess they all show up at MY range! Even with new indoor ranges opening up in our area the demand during prime shooting hours is crazy. Wait times like hours unless you have the big bucks membership.

There are some wildcat ranges around here, but every one of them is filled with broken glass and rusted garbage. Ya know, sometimes I just hate people...
Wobbly, would LOVE to take you up on that, but it might be a wee hike from here. Maybe on the 2023 vacation.  8)
It's great to see more people learning and having fun out on the line...but can I just get a few hours....please...?  ;D

You have obviously been assigned the hours between 1 and 2 AM.  O0

I’m thankful that I have my own place to shoot less than a 1/2 mile from home. And at least for now there’s a place I can shoot long range rifle and also handguns only 10 minutes away. I generally shoot steel targets there with either rifle or handgun. Rain and high winds kept me from long range rifle shooting earlier this year and then it just turned off hot with heat index’s over 100*. Past 6 weeks has been perfect.

We went to the outdoor range to do some 38 work...holy great stinking garbanzos, it was way too crowded. I decided I would have to get SOME trigger time in, and managed to get a target out. Wasn't good, trying to find what this new Smith likes, but the loud music, (we had a party next to us with a boom box...no, not an 80s one, but the smaller version, playing Mexican Top 40s), and two of us tied to only one lane. Da Boy didn't even try to shoot, and we packed it up in about 30 minutes. Wasn't worth it.

I have 2 indoor ranges 5 miles and 12 miles from the house, and a nice open range to 100 yards about 20 miles away in a national forest.

Having been free from any work responsibilities since 2008 I can pick the times to go when there's usually no one else there which I prefer. I enjoy shooting alone, occasionally with one other serious person, but never more. I find people distracting and nowadays too many people without gun-handling safety skills and have watched too many cop shows and played too many shoot-em-up games.

Shooting for me is not a social time, but a learning time. Afterward, we can socialize, but not on the firing line.

Past spring was the last time I went to a public outdoor range. Previous to that trip I had already sworn off of them.

Anyway, this past spring, my granddaughter’s boyfriend and I visited one to do some serious rifle shooting. A turkey hunter was there patterning his shotgun and sighting in his red dot. His shotgun was a single shot break open. He would shoot and go check his target. He would tilt his head every way imaginable looking at his target and would count each pellet. Finally he would return to the firing line, load the single barrel, fire, and head to his target before either of us could load and get behind our scopes. It was unreal how much ammo he burned up. We finally got our stuff together and left. Hopefully, I’m finished with public ranges.

By the way, if his shotgun was not a 410, he would not have held up to shoot near as much.
