My 75B came with a Mcarbo extra heavy recoil spring. The gun would eject cases onto me arms. I put in the original one, and now the shells go about 6’. It is easier to rack, without hardly in difference in recoil.
Exactly. You want
your typical ammunition* to eject the spent cartridge case roughly 6 to 8 feet.
• This is a good test of your recoil spring strength. It insures your slide stop isn't being hammered to death. It insures your ejection system has enough power to operate correctly and consistently.
• It's a good way to gauge if the new brand of ammo you're testing is equivalent to the old. Different power ammo will have different POI due to different muzzle rise.
By "
your typical ammunition" we mean the ammunition you consistently shoot. It could be Target grade or the higher power SD grade. If you handload low power ammo specifically to reduce muzzle climb for competition purposes, then you'd want to pair that with a very low power recoil spring. Whereas your carry gun might have a much stronger spring. And both guns would throw the spent case roughly the same distance.
