SP-01 Tactical - want to convert to Safety (instead of Decocker)
« on: December 06, 2022, 04:54:20 PM »
I just bought a used SP-01 Tactical.  It is not a Urban but has the suppressor sights & threaded barrel.  As all tactical SP-01s it has a decocker.  I heard that the trigger will improve if I switch over to a safety.  I would like to do this but don't want to pay $300 or so to Cajun Gun Works.  Are there other options? My son recently got a P-01 Convertable Omega.  He likes the decocker.  Would it be possible to swap over parts from his gun to mine?

You can not swap his parts over to convert to safety as the omega trigger system is different, one of it's selling points is easy conversion between safety and decocker. You're going to just need to get a safety version if that's what you want. Holes in frame are in different locations between Tactical and regular model SP-01s.

So if you want a safety version = buy one of those. Having said that, if your main reason for wanting the safety version is the perception that you will have an improved trigger, I wouldn't worry about it. In stock form there isn't a huge difference between the two. And while it may have a bit of an edge (largely due to being somewhat easier to work on) if you upgraded various parts the safety version will be negligibly better than the decocker at best.

I don't think Cajun even offers a conversion like that but I could be wrong.

The standard 75 variants (75B/75BD, SP-01/SP-01 Tactical, P-01, Rami, Phantom, etc) are not swappable between decocker and safety.  There are no parts that you can purchase to "convert" your decocker to a safety model.  There are however parts you can purchase to tune the decocker model variant you own.  There is misinformation around the internet that the decocker models are somehow inferior to the safety model.  This is false.  They can both be tuned to the same degree and both can result in a superb trigger.

The omega variants are changeable between safety and decocker and generally come with the parts to convert it in the box.

Oh and the parts are not interchangeable between the standard 75 variants and the omega variants.

I'd suggest you shoot the gun you have to break it in and see how the trigger improves.  It will smooth out over time as parts wear in to each.  If you want a safety you are going to have to look for the standard SP-01 variant.

Cheers,
Toby

My SP-01 tactical has a great rigger IMHO which got better with break in. My PCR D was much worse and I cajunized it and now is my favorite. Is it the DA, SA or both? CGW has a $29 spring package that reduces the DA pull weight or you could go with the defensive package (https://cajungunworks.com/product/75400-defensive-carry-package-75-series-decocker/) which would give you a very nice all around trigger. Otherwise, I would sell it and find a manual safety model.
SP-01 Tactical
75 D PCR fully Cajunized
2075 Rami B (9 mm), 85 trigger/reach reduction kit
75 SC Massada
97 B CGW reach reduction kit/‘flat’ trigger/race hammer
457 Varmint MTR
82, 9x18
P10C OR SR
Dan Wesson Valor V-bob black Duty finish
P10F OR
75 B

Welcome. As others have said……….Not convertible.
I have the Tactical. I have the pro package in it. No way I’m good enuf to tell the difference between decocker and safety. Mine is scary smooth, so much so, that I wouldn’t use it for a carry piece. Long story short, if you can notice a difference between safety and decocker after installing the pro package, then I assume you’re a pro shooter. [emoji85][emoji86][emoji87]

I understand that you want to keep your gun in a budget but this is just a suggestion. The SP01 Shadow (Shadow 1) is essentially an SP01 without the firing pin block and does have a smoother trigger than any 75B model.
CZ Custom has one for sale I think:
https://czcustom.com/new-firearms/cz-pistols-factory/cz-75-sp01-shadow-9mm-91154-black-cz-custom-exclusive.html

If you have it Cajunized (again more money) it has a really smooth trigger, even better than SP01 tactical that's been Cajunized. I have one of each and both were done by CGW. Both have great triggers but the SP01 Shadow is noticeably smoother.

Sounds like I just need to shoot & enjoy it!  This will never be a carry gun - just practice/range gun so not that big of an issue as long as I can get a good trigger pull.  Big reason why I got this particular gun because 1) I needed another CZ 75 & 2) threaded barrel & suppressor height sight.  I like quiet back yard practice & loved my son's P-01.
