6.5 grendel subsonic
« on: January 31, 2023, 11:04:45 PM »
Okay so...my question is pretty straightforward. I'm interested in a load for 6.5 Grendel in my 527 that would be subsonic.

I am well versed in the problems of this, and have found some suggested loads, however I thought I should ask here. Loads that I have used have been built around 120 gr soft points. Getting a subsonic load to expand seems to be the problem. Getting past the AR discussions seems to be another problem, even if you search for bolt gun use.

To wind it up...I'm okay if the best that I can manage is suppressed versus subsonic (quiet) and that has been my goal all along. So, after lots of online looking, thought I would ask here....120 is perhaps as far heavy as I want to go, though I do have some 140s with double cannelure I might try(?)...all help/ideas?
It's not saving any water if you have to flush it over and over....

What is the heaviest bullet you can get for it?  Usually subsonic loads use heavy bullets.

You might check out castboolits.com. for load suggestions.  A lot of the load data may be for cast lead bullets but it could give you some ideas about alternate powders.

I can remember, from years ago, reading about the use of shotgun and pistol powders for lead bullet (low velocity) loads in .30-06.  Low velocity is what you want.  You don't care about low gas port pressures (from fast burning powders that have peaked and dropped off to very low pressures (equals low sound levels?) by the time the bullet gets near the end of the barrel.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I've done a lot of reloading for the Grendel but nothing sub-sonic. I would suggest, if you haven't already go to the 6.5 Grendel Forum, lots of good info on anything Grendel.  Good luck.

Best bullet that I've found as far as expansion/pfs is the Nosler Accubond, 1300,fps.
