TS2 - Is there a major benefit to a barrel bushing?
« on: February 02, 2023, 03:59:26 PM »
Ok...might be a newbie type question...but I'm just beginning to shoot in some leagues with my TS2 green...and am thinking about getting another (with an optics cut via cz custom) and using the new "Configurator" you can add a barrel bushing....is this a worth while upgrade for this type of shooting?  Is it worth the $350 ask?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

I think it really depends on what you mean by leagues, your ability level, and your expectations. The bushing will tend to make it more accurate. Skilled shooters doing something like bullseye or shooting for group size may appreciate. Most USPSA types (I've had high level people tell me this) don't care as much. As long as it consistently hits A zone they're fine. Most of those guys I've heard from were more jazzed about the new front serrations and "fixing" the safety (it sits higher) on the new TS2O than the bushing.

I can think of a pretty clear example of different types of shooters using two people I know. One is an old school high power shooter that is also an excellent pistol shot. The other is a high level (on the national and a bit of international) USPSA shooter. Give them the same pistol and let them slow fire and the high power shooter will shoot smaller groups than the USPSA guy all day. Introduce a clock and the USPSA guys groups won't get much bigger, the high power guys will grow quite a bit. As long as his pistol will shoot sub 2" or so at 20-25 yards the USPSA guy really doesn't care beyond that, A zone is A zone. He's as focused and spends nearly as much time training on things like movement as he is on shooting. And during the season he's training something like 20+ hours a week.

Edit - To add since you said you're just starting with this type of stuff I will simply say there is really no downside to getting the bushing other than $. The odds of not having a bushing holding you back score wise anytime soon is next to 0. There are so many other factors. If you think it's cool and don't mind the money go for it!

Alpha says a lot, add +1.  Will add I have two CZs that I have put external bushings on.  One of them became a real tack driver and the other really did not change that much at all, and with some loads was less accurate.  Both had barrel movement eliminated; however only one was more accurate on paper at distance.  If your shooting is all up close (sub 25yds) it is probably not worth your money, spend it on ammo and range time.

Best wishes.

Agree with the bullseye link. I only shoot bulls eye and have pistols that group smaller than 2 in at 50 yds.
If you are not a serious bullseye shooter, no need.

I may be shooting more bullseye soon, what pistols do you shoot at 50? I normally sight my pistols in at 50 but thats because the dirt berm gives good feedback to adjusting sights or shooting abliity that day.

Depends on what leagues you want to shoot in. In ISSF you won't even shoot your CZ, people tend to shoot only .32 S&W there (Walther GSP, for example). TS2 is a good target pistol (better than the SH2 - trigger, sight radius), but it depends on what you want, I guess. Can you get a better one? I'd argue some custom 1911/2011s could give you an edge, but for a much higher price. But still they'd be outclassed by typical target pistols like I mentioned before. Especially if the requirement is to shoot one handed (ergonomic grip is a must have then), which most bullseye competitions have.

I'm shooting "amateur league" bullseye competitions with my TS2 (target shooting is way more popular in Europe than in the US - most people at least start with target shooting) - two handed, no real limitations on sights or weight (gun, trigger pull etc.), but as you go higher, you have to get the gun that is actually permitted.
