Timney Trigger Problems on CZ 457
« on: March 25, 2023, 06:21:12 PM »
Hello everyone, has anyone else experienced problems with the 457 Timney trigger. I went to the range yesterday and there were several times the trigger did not reset itself. I have the trigger set to 11-12 oz pull weight with very little over travel. It works fine for several rounds then sometimes after cocking, the trigger doesn’t seem to be reseting. Not sure what to think. Please advise if you have experienced any problems like this.

I have my Timney trigger set for 10 oz if I try to go lower it won’t rest. What are you using to measure your trigger pull weight.

I am using an older model RCBS trigger pull gauge. I’ve been using it for years. It seems to be very accurate. Maybe I’ll go up an ounce or two to see if the problem gets resolved. Thank you for your input…..God Bless…..pastorjeffp

I'd suggest when you're down to ounces and under 1# , perhaps you should get that 'tested'.  B4 I got a wheeler digital, I just used a plastic bag hooked on the trigger.  I used tuna-fish cans, then lighter things around the shop till the trigger snapped.  It was pretty accurate until I got below 1#, that's when I sprung for a 'real' gage.   However, with the wheeler digital one needs to be careful with "Overtravel".  My 457 V-MTR is down around 4-6 oz but OT is NIL, so when I test I need to watch the gage closely to see WHEN it trips. Otherwise the OT 'bumps' the reading up 3-6 or more ounces, in my case reading 10 to 16 oz if it hits the OT "Wall".  This is common, as I "Discovered" it on a YT vid where the guy was showing his gage screen as he tested his CZ.  I could hear the trigger trip at like 5-6 oz and his gage went to 10-13, which is what he was telling 'viewers'.  I commented and he watched his vid closely then agreed it was 'over-reading' the weight of pull.

Hi again,  I just wanted to clarify when I said "... get that tested..." I'm referring to the RCBS gage.  It may not be that accurate when down to a few ounces.  Of course, who knows about the wheeler, either.
I see posts from people wanting 2-3 ounces and shake  my head.  I can "pinch" my trigger at 5-6 oz, that's silly enough for me  ::)
