What parts are a "Must Have" to clean up a P09's trigger?
« on: December 15, 2022, 09:31:22 PM »
Before I left Virginia a year ago, I picked up a good deal on a used P09, threaded w/suppressor height sights. I've shot it a couple times, nice pistol, I'd like to clean the trigger up in both modes, without sacrificing ignition reliability by using too light of a hammer spring.
My first thought was to simply get the full CGW P07/09 Pro-Grade Upgrade Kit (and measuring the existing roller first!), but to those of you that have cleaned up this trigger previously, do I need all of that, or are there 3-4 key items to replace to get there? Also, the Omega trigger (which is currently out of stock), is it much more then a different "feel", or is it helping the trigger feel in some other way?
Thanks for any tips!

Edit: And one more question; what is the deal about dry firing with an O-ring? Why, and where does it go? (I'm used to believing that it's okay to dry fire modern centerfire pistols.)

Aww SHOOT! Okay, one MORE question; Will the CGW Pro Grade Kit work with either the decocker OR the manual safety installed, or is it designed to only use one option?

There are two triggers...the older deeply curved style and a newer flatter style. I'd say it comes down to personal preference, I like the flatter trigger. The biggest improvement comes from the cajun hammer, but the short reset helps too. I would recommend buying the whole kit.

Thanks, I found schmeky's excellent thread tutorial, that will be my working guide, I guess.

The factory CZ Firing Pin Retaining Pin is a wear part and will eventually fail. The CGW replacement FPRP takes care of the issue. It is a spring steel split pin that has some give in it to absorb the shock of the Firing Pin striking it rather than taking cumulative damage like the factory pin. Using an O ring completely isolates the Fring Pin from be struck all together.

Dry Fire O ring reference picture.

The CGW Upgrade kits for the CZ P Series work for both Decocker and Safety configuration.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

The CGW kits are backordered, hoping they get them back in stock quickly.

Bummer, they showed in stock yesterday morning, they were just out of the Omega trigger. Oh well, snooze and lose, I guess...

Well, so I got more serious, started hounding CGW (politely), and finally got a complete pro kit for the P09, including the Omega trigger, and a .220 bushing. I endured the learning curve of a new (to me) platform and got the whole thing installed, the only troll under that bridge being that darn decocker spring! At first I was mortified that this gun, while very smooth feeling, now had a 6.5# SINGLE ACTION trigger pull! A quick swap out of the red sear spring for the natural one, and “poof”, I have a very smooth, crisp 4# SA trigger and a very workable DA pull. Loading mags to go try it out now!

Be aware that the rollers CAN be helpful in that they are concentric from CGW - you can count on it.  However, if they are too big, they can actually contribute to unwanted Stacking - depending on your guns tolerances.  I've had rollers that have been .2145.  Just keep that in mind.  Fortunately, you can easily swap these out on a P gun.

Well, my stock bushing measured .225, so they recommended going down to .220. DA is NOT "super light", but it IS smooth, clean and manageable. I shot the P09 this afternoon and was VERY impressed with it. That bag of parts and the excellent phone support CGW gave me really made a difference in how that gun shoots! A little twidge to the left with the rear sight is all that's needed.

I think you did good just getting the entire kit from the start. On several P07 and P09s I added parts a couple at a time and got very different results between different guns. My P07 and one P09 now have entire kits, minus the roller. The CGW roller on both of those guns did not help. My second P09 still hase the OEM hammer and it is a big difference in trigger pull quality compared to my P07 and other P09 with the CGW hammer.

Yeah, I lucked out on deciding to go in "whole hog", as it were. Sometimes I like to try and cherry pick which mods I think are really needed, but this time, I became convinced that CGW knew something that I didn't, and I guess I was right. I waas really bummed feeling a 6.5+# SA trigger on this thing, post mod, until I installed the lighter weight sear spring. As I said, that changed everything and this gun is just the cat's ass now! And I have to add, those couple of guys at CGW? Some of the nicest folks you would ever care to talk to, great phone support, for sure!

Unfortunately, I am now having evil thoughts of cleaning THIS gun's trigger up! I wonder if it's worth the effort?
