What I do when I can't make it to the range
« on: March 22, 2023, 03:51:11 PM »
I've been away from the range for a few months due to some short term medical issues I finally got around to addressing.  But I've been keeping up with my video and photography hobbies, at least on the weekends!

Here is a short 3 min video I made last Sunday morning in the Hill Country of Texas.  It was 35 degrees F but no wind.  I was testing and burning in a new DJI Osmo Action 3 camera that I received on Saturday.  This was initially just an experiment, but my kids and grand kids thought it was pretty neat, so I am going to link to it here, just for kicks, and to prove that I am still around.  Enjoy.

I'll be back to the range in April with the 9mm pistols at 100-200 yards.  I may make a video or two on how much skill I have lost over the last few months.  If it isn't too embarrassing...

Thanks for sharing Joe  :)

For the DJI drone, I recommend getting some ND or polarized filters, especially for sunny days.  The auto-exposure on the drone tends to over-expose  ;)

Thanks, understood, I got a set of 3/4/5/6 stop ND's yesterday for the Action 3.  (I don't have a drone.  Yet.)  Will use the ND's tomorrow when the sun appears for the first time in a few days.  F/2.8 and 1/60th shutter...probably 5 stop to start to get the iso in range.

Glad to hear you're okay.  Been wondering where you were.

Looking forward to the shooting reports, as always.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Glad to see you keeping up, amigo. I haven't been to the range much myself, so I understand completely. On the other hand, I am waiting for the video of you popping balloons at 300 yards with the P-10S! ;D

I finish treatments on Tuesday of this week, and should be getting back to normal shortly after.  My local range has been shut down due to rain most of last week and this weekend as well, so I haven't even been able to visit and harass the owner much.

He is about to open a 150 yard rifle bay and I will definitely try that with the P-10S maybe in May.  Hold over here at this altitude should be similar to 200 in the thin air in New Mexico.  I'm heading to New Mexico soon also.  I may just take the P-10F and P-10S pistols and shoot them until I am whipped or get sloppy.

I'm thinking a good lesson video will be for me to video my first attempts at 100 yards after a few months off!  That may be kind of funny.  Then again after a few hundred practice rounds to get my trigger control back.

I think you'll do just fine Joe.  Specificity and muscles memories will get you back on track in no time.  Your timing may be off, but a couple of magazines will fix that too.  Looking forward to your range report  ;)
