SP-01 dot sight
« on: May 27, 2023, 06:58:23 PM »
I have been thinking about placing a Holosun 507 on my SP01. I was thinking about using a dovetail mount if that is possible. I would rather have the slide milled just hate the turnaround time from most places. What are the pros vs cons when using a dovetail vs having it milled to fit? Thank you for your opinions.

Dovetail mounts have a higher height over bore.  It will be harder to co-witness with irons, and you'll need to present the gun differently to be on target.  On the plus side, you're not making a permanent change to your slide.

If it were me, I'd get the slide milled to have an easier co-witness.

I have a SP-01 tactical with the sig dovetail mount and Romeo1 I picked up cheap. Was easy to pick up the new presentation with it.  Has held zero great and really no issues. Went this route as this was my first dot and did not want to make any permanent changes. This is my nightstand pistol but after having it for almost 2 years (and now have 2 of my carry pistols with dots) considering getting it milled.  Although at HD ranges I think I can put rounds on target even of the dot failed.

It sits very well on it I like that. Most I have seen sit up too high for my taste.

CZC will be 2-3 months. Primary Machine will have the fastest turnaround and does a fantastic job. Just had my SP01 Shadow milled for a 407K. Always flawless work from them. They may have had the slide for 2 -3 days before it was shipped back to me.

I ran my SP-01 with a dovetail red dot, and it felt "wonky," it added weight to the slide, which in turn might have contributed to my feeding issues. I am saying "might" as I have never gotten to the root cause of the problem. Also, the weight was added to the top of the slide, which made it tilt up more than usual during the recoil movement

Later, I  sent it in for a slide cut and a few cuts to lighten the slide and offset the weight of the red dot. Since then, I've been enjoying the pistol and zero feeding issues.

I picked up an SP-01 Shadow from CZC that they milled and installed a Trijicon SRO.  Great work by CZC. Go for a milled installation.
