Trying to identify an old CZ 75
« on: April 03, 2024, 01:53:44 PM »
I am new to the site, and new to CZ pistols.
I recently obtained a well worn CZ 75 pistol that I am trying to learn about. It has a "retro" hammer, but is not marked as a retro version of the pistol. The serial number is J6962. The serial number on the frame is J6962X. There is no C.I.P. proof number on the barrel, so I can't tell what year it was manufactured. The front sight is either made into the slide, or it has a pin underneath. It does not have a dovetail. I shot if for the first time on Monday, and it is as accurate today as the day it was manufactured. The markings below the trigger guard are:  "C.A.I. Georgia, VT" "Made in Czech Republic" "CZ." The logo engraved on the slide looks like a Z with a strike through in a circle, rather than the logo on my Shadow and my 75 D Compact. I have tried to attach some pictures, but I am not smart enough to have them work.
Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions?

Welcome. If an older model, the 2 digit year should be stamped next to the ejection port. If a newer model, it will have a 2 digit stamp before the serial number in frame. Notice the oval to the left of ejection port.

IIRC, Century Arms was a very large importer of surplus Foreign made firearms. Most were not readily available in the US even as new.

Check out this section section of this forum.  It has a great deal of info on old CZ's.

Guessing it’s a ‘92 manufacture date.

Thanks for all of the information. These  are some pictures of the gun. I am still trying to figure this one out. The gun appears to be an older model, but I can't read the date. Any ideas about how to clean up the area? I was thinking of alcohol or peroxide, but I don't want to do more harm.

It’s definitely a Pre B. Can’t make out the date.

Looks like “92” 1992 pre-B with a replacement slide stop. Likely Israeli surplus import.

That would be my guess from photos of Israeli surplus '75s.

I just posted some pictures of the restoration. See the post "Restoration of a '92 pre-B" added on June 14.
