Ruger single shots
« on: September 01, 2023, 10:44:16 PM »
So, I have a Ruger No3 single shot in 30-40 Krag. It's a long story, but as I have an original 1898, which I took my first deer with back in the day and I have a LOT of reloading components...it was really a natural thing to aquire something modern in that caliber. However this is my 3rd No 3 in this caliber, the first 2 being sold due to various issues. This one was doing fine, until it wasn't.
There is a plunger in the action, held in place by a plunger pin...and it appears that the pin has rusted out. The plunger I have, the pin is likely done, the plunger spring is likely also done. (best I can tell).
Question is...Gunparts doesnt have the parts anymore, and my online searches arent helpful so far. Anyone know of a likely source for such parts?
It's not saving any water if you have to flush it over and over....

Couldn't you make a cross pin from the smooth shanked portion of the appropriately sized drill bit. With Ruger a call to customer service can sometimes get you the part that's needed even when they don't list them for discontinued models. I'm currently waiting on a recoil spring assembly for the Ruger MK I (Standard) model. They would only let me buy 1 as the parts are discontinued, but they still have them.

Yeah I guess I could try that, especially if I continue to have no luck finding the pin. I may also need a new plunger spring to go with it, so perhaps a call to Ruger might be a good idea.
