Synthetic 457 model Ammunition
« on: August 30, 2023, 12:04:48 PM »
I'm looking at this model , 02313 , from a small gun shop near me .  I like the wood grain stocks but I need a shorter gun.   They want $574 plus tax.  I guess that's a reasonable mark up for a small shop.  Cabelas used to carry CZ but no longer.

What 22lr would you suggest to get the best accuracy from this 20 1/2 " barrel?  I may put a suppressor on it eventually, any recommendation's?

Thanks!
Dave

I’m old and my collection stops at the 452 model. If you look around they use to have the wood stock, 16.5” threaded barrel model. Mine is a tack driver. Confirm the barrel thread pitch. Early ones were the European standard.

Thank you.  This one is the American thread size.

Yeah even CZ-USA was smart enough to figure out that selling a rifle with a thread size no one used in the States  was a bad idea. :D

Ammo depends on how much $$$ you want to spend. Norma tac 22 is all I need. Consistent and inexpensive. If you’re going to get serious and compete, you’ll be looking at higher priced ammo among many more upgrades!

With 22s, I just bought those 500 round bricks of Remington.   With every other weapon, I’d take time and spend the bucks to find the best match—ammo for rifle.   I’d like to find out what people find that these CZs like.

For the money Norma tac is hard to beat. SK, Eley, Lapua for competitive shooting

I got a 457 V-MTR this past Winter and have tried 7 diff 'flavours'.  For 'low-cost' accuracy I found CCI-SV RNL does quite well.  Next more accurate is SK-Rifle Match, then SK +, then SK-Flat Nose.  All got 0.3-0.75" @ 50-yds.  I found Federal Champion 40g RNL-1200ps was OK for inexpensive 'practice' but only about 1" @ 50-yds.  I haven't tried any of the Eley or 'expensive' Lapua rounds.  I don't compete so I don't plan to buy any.

It’s like the old racer quote : “Speed cost money, How fast do you want to go? Same with 22  ammo; how accurate do you need to be. I use to find it unbearable for a round to not group due to quality issues and spend big $$$. Now I’m retired and realize it’s a blessing in disguise. When one flys off because I was really listening to the guy next me I just blame the cheap ammo. When I shoot Federal AutoMatch I shoot 6 round groups and toss out the flyer to figure my “MOA” lol. Seriously it’s not even close: Really good ammo would beat even that easily.

My primary use is for critters and sparrows within 50 yards.  But, the occasional groundhog happens and I’m not fond of the noise from the 17 rimfire cannon.  So I need accuracy for headshots out to 50 yards.  The 17 savage varmit shoots incredibly well with most rounds touching at 50 yards, but otherwise it’s mechanically junk.    Besides it’s too loud for my uses.   So what ammo would you choose?  Thanks

For the most accurate ammo, you will need to find target ammo and that is all subsonic

Here is what good ammo is capable of, this is at the Lapua testing center in Mesa AZ in 2021.  Gun is bolted to the bench and fired every 5 or so seconds.  The number in the bottom right is the edge to edge diameter of the group in mm, subtract 5.5mm to get center to center

No adjustments were made to try and center the shots, just shooting the rifle as is.  The ## in the top left of the plots shows how many rounds make up that group, the good ammo was given 20 shots
